I don't know about wheelchair friendliness or public transportation in Tampa but I know Fort Myers has a TERRIBLE ONE!!! You will be miserable trying to catch the bus and or wheel yourself to go places in the hot sun!! You know what city in FL has reasonable transportation with wheelchair friendly areas?! West Palm Beach!! PalmTran is pretty good and way cleaner than VIA here in San Antonio! And there's sidewalks everywhere in West Palm Beach. No hills to wheel yourself up like here in SA! And if you don't like West Palm, there are different cities to consider like Lantana or Boca Raton. PalmTran covers all of Palm Beach County. And it has trains to get you to several different cities along the coast!! AND they have several bus fleets for the disabled and senior citizens!! Palm Beach County is way better suited for the disabled than Fort Myers that's for sure!! Good luck and don't learn the hard way like I did!!
