Question Crime in Fort Myers?

I am moving to South Fort Myers from Kentucky. We have 2 teenage children ages 16 and 14. Maybe I am just scared but should I be concerned about their safety? We will be teaching school and we have found a condo next to Lee County Hospital. Honestly is this the type of place we will always be looking over our shoulders?

Thanks

Crime is pretty bad, certainly at lot worse than you would expect. The south portion (south of Colonial) is a bit safer, but check for sex offenders on this website; the results WILL surprise you. I wouldn't walk around with a money belt in S. Fort Myers, but do take precautions around your home to prevent property crime, and try not to go north of Colonial if you don't have to. I know that the hospital is on Cleavland north of Colonial, but still, I would look further south, if you have not already closed.

The Condo is off of Summerlin Road around the Lee County Medical Park on Bass Road. This is a gated community behind the medical complex. Is this the same area you are referring to? Cypress Lake Blvd is also close by. Any Advice would be wonderful.

Thanks

Oh, Ok, I am thinking of Lee Memorial Hospital. That area is fine. The amount of sex offenders may still surprise you, and you STILL need to protect your property (To tell you the truth, those gate are for aesthetics, and there are still an above-average amount of burglaries), but you will certainly be safe in your daily activities. You will be fine. Just run a search for sex offenders, and if there are not any in your neighborhood, then you picked a good part of Fort Myers .

That area is by HealthPark. Very nice area. A registered sex offender is maybe all you would have to deal with.
