If money is the main factor......do what the rednecks do in Georgia....put one of those blue tarps in the back of a pickup truck and fill mit up with water.......when you're done just drop the tail gate.

What about a nice hot tub (spa)? You can keep it cool in the summer for dips.

I built my own in-ground pool (here in PA) You can purchase the "poly-resin" sided inground pool kit from a variety of online companies. The average for the kit is around 6-7 grand. This includes walls, plumbing (but you will run back and forth to your local plumber)A brackets, liner, skimmer, pump, filter, ladder, light, gaskets, coping, etc... You will have additional expenses for the "dig"... call an experienced pool excavator (the blue prints are included with your kit) You will need back fill/stones... cement for A bracket support and of coarse cement for the patio... a fence. For everything my 16x 32, eight foot diving end cost me a total of $16,000...doing it myself. By the way it took me almost 6 FULL weeks 8 hours a day to complete. Around here the same exact pool/patio/fence/finishing would have cost be approximately $35,000.

BTW... Most of the companies who sell these DIY kits have a 800 number with tech support. I spent a lot of time on the phone until I had to go and rent a transverse (they are expensive to buy)

I have seen the companies that offer supplies for a DIY. That may be an option.

As far as a spa goes one can't swim laps in a spa.

To swim laps you need at least 30 feet in length. That is not a small pool and will likely be way over your budget. I had a 10 by 30 foot above ground pool in my first house and you could swim laps (short ones)
