Default 32 single young professional possible relocation to Ft. Myers

I currently live in Palm Beach County. I have a career opportunity that would require me to move to the Ft. Myers area. I have spent very little time on the west coast of Florida. Any insight on how it is to live over there would be appreciated. Also how is Ft. Myers for a young single guy? Thank you for all the help!

better sunsets and flatwater boating?

hmmmm...young, single, job, hot car, cheap real estate, Florida lifestyle...we're just jealous!

you will have to work harder at finding your crowd, but you will feel younger longer given the more concentrated retiree and snowbird factor

how do you spend your spare time?

My possibly limited impression as a second homer...the islands and coast south of FM beach is expensive (better as a drive in event, Bare Foot has great facilities), residential downtown can be iffy security wise at night and at the margins (go days and for night time special events or clubbing), the beach near the pier can be tacky (great for spending a walking afternoon though, or park north end), Naples is very nice but a bit far for a daily commute in traffic and is really dead out of season (30 minutes on the 75 from Daniels).

I know it is self serving, but my neighbourhood has some students and young professionals that share townhouse rentals. You have to pay attention to commute length at rush hour in high season.

Thank you for your response!

I usually spend my spare time staying active. Mountain Biking, Gym and being involved in virtually any sport. I also enjoy a nice happy hour with friends and a relaxing time at the beach.

I have just heard that there are not many people my age in Ft. Myers.

well, I suspect it is like being an American ex-pat overseas...once you find 5 friends to hang out with, the statistics don't matter

tons of colleges and universities in the area, so there must be some out there

check out the biking references in the FAQ...Paseo has a GREAT gym and spinning, and you will see working singles there before and after office hours

its the same with all the stats about the area or county

all that matters is the view out your front porch and the drive to the store to get hemorrhoid cream

nothing else really exists

keep your financial footprint below your punching weight and government budget problems and tax increases can be absorbed

buy a house you will use for a couple of decades, and resale does not matter

better, rent, and all that stuff is someone else's worry

Hello,

I am also a young professional about your age and I actually just got a job in the Fort Myers area and was wondering if you ever ended up finding a place there that you liked.
