I just got back from visiting Fort Myers Beach, and I have to say, don't go there. The beach is very nice, it wasn't crowded at all, but the water was disgusting. It smelled like sewage every morning and it was a dark murky brown. I only went into the water up to my knees, and came home with a nasty rash on both legs and my feet, an infection on one toe and my husband has an infection in both his eyes. They have signs posted everywhere saying that they do weekly water testing and that there was no water problems, but I have been to a lot of beaches, and this is the first time I 've had such a bad reaction to the water. I was in North Miami beach in May and I highly recommend going there instead. It is a little more crowded and more expensive, but the water is clean and doesn't smell bad.

Fort Myers Beach is very nasty. I use to feel horribly bad for the tourists, when I lived there. It's even worse when there is red tide, which happens often.
It's funny, how property values are plummeting. I guess a lot of these investors or uneducated buyers did not research the area. |
