You seem very upset about your move to Cape Coral. Is it that much better on Long Island? Paying these crazy taxes for living in a small house? Is the crime that much worse? Is your house still worth the money you paid for it? People like you are scaring me away from making a move.

Cape Coral is a safe city, if it wasn't I would have moved years ago. We are the third safest city in FL with over 100,000 per 2005 stats. If you look on city data we are lower than the US avg. Most of my friends have lived here for over 8 years and never had a problem. Never say a ghetto in Cape Coral yet. I left LI (lived in Suffolk County most of my life except for a short time in Centereach) in 1982 and never looked back.

I think it's now over 150,000 people. They are expecting Cape Coral to keep people coming but I just hope they can handle it. The market is down now and I expect it to go further. I think that the people that want to leave are those who want a "retirement spot". It is also getting expensive..taxes, insurance..etc.

Yes there a lot of grow houses here......its funny, because you can drive down the street and not even know where they are. All of the cape looks relatively the same. There is not a ghetto here. There is nowhere in the cape that I would feel uneasy about going to. You could drop me off with my two and a half year old, and she could help me push the stroller carrying my two month old, and I would not feel uneasy. The cape reminds me of suburbia
outside a larger city.
I use to work in loss prevention in a suburb of Detroit....now that is a ghetto !
When gang members walk up to someone in the mall and demand their tennis shoes or they will be gunned down......now that is a ghetto!
The store I trained at had 32 isles and 2 cameras per isle.
An inexperienced stock clerk placed some hair care products on an end cap and within less than half an hour 46 bottles were gone!
I think the cape has some teen gang wanna Bs.
By the trial going on now I think that might of been an eye opener for the wanna Bs. Hopefully they got the message. Designer1

The taxes will go up just like in long Island, Some one has to pay for all this stuff. In New York you got something for your taxes.

Is that a good thing? What does that mean to you?

The fishing is great and the boating excellent, provided you are used to shallow water and constant crab traps.
I go boating alot and seldom encounter a crab trap! Where are you boating at? I boat from the ape harbour area out to sanibel or picnic island and captiva.

We were looking at a house (on the computer) in the SW area for a few months. It started at 500 and went all the way down to 425. That was in a matter of weeks. How crazy is that!! That makes me a little nervous too. People just want to sell so quickly.
I will think more about the SE area. I also need to be around families with young kids. Good neighborhood and great schools. I need to come for another visit. When I do, what should I look for? Where should I go? I have been to the beach- it is very nice. That is the SE area..I think.
What do they have in the SW?
Thank you....everyone..for all your replys. They have been very helpful. Any advice or information is helpful. Especially with such a big move like this. I hope your right when you say they will be worth more $$ in the future. I think so too.
We live in the sw and love it. We lived on Pelican south of cape coral parkway with sailboat access. The canal was only 80 ft wide.
In the sw, south of cpe coral pky is key! We moved to a larger home on the citrus canal that feeds some of the eight lakes. We see all types of boats go by daily. The houses on the drive out to the river get nicer the closer you get to the river...really pretty boat ride. We have one bridge.....but who cares unless you have a sail boat. If you have ever had a sailboat next door to you and watched it during a hurricaine it would make you nervous!
I like the wider canal215ft we arn't looking in the side of a boat or in the back of a house so close. Our drive out is not looking at a bunch of tear downs that will be replaced in the next 20 years. I like it to look nice now!
Our kids can canoe back in the lakes and we feel safe with them there.
There are some pretty large boats that go by that fit under the bridge, some 30-40 footers.
On our 80 ft canal wehardly ever saw anything.
We now see dolphins, manatee, rays, sheephead, jack, coconuts floating by,
boats, kayaks, canoes, zodiaks. It is a moving picture. Ducks and blue heron also.designer1
