? for V20-
West of Burnt Store Rd, North of Pine Island Rd and SW of Ceitus Pkwy (SW 38th Ave)
appears to have deep, wide canals with no locks, no lifts, no bridges and
very quick access to Matlacha, the harbor (Gulf).
Admittedly an isolated, small area but seems to be very accessable.
Perhaps my observations are improperly based.

GulfRGT,
I believe that the area you are refering to is known as Matlacha Isles (SW 38th Ave is not Matlacha Isles, but is right across the canal from it). It is technically Unit 58. This area does not have locks, lifts or bridges. Some of the canals are wider than normal and it does have quick access to open water. I have boated through the canals and it is a beautiful spot.
I have a nice aerial picture of the area, however for some reason I am having difficulty posting it here.

Hey Connie,
A Ft Myers company has offered my husband a position, therefore my family and I will be relocating within the next month. We are moving from Nashville, TN and are quite aware of heavy traffic flow. Upon my research, we are planning on renting the first year in the Cape Coral area. (the SW/NW areas)
Are these good areas, as we were told? Also could you provide me with a few subdivisions to look at.
Your information was very much appreciated. There are pros and cons to every city.
Thank you

West?
If traveling to Ft Myers to work I think something on the east side would cut your travel time, especially in the mornings.
There are some nice homes, apartment to rent on this side also. I would suggest coming in and look for a weekend before you sign a lease or at least get a real estate map so you know what you are looking at.
Good luck with the move and welcome.

RENT RENT RENT RENT RENT!
Cape Coral is a city overswamped with excessive home development. It will take a few years for things to reach normalcy & therefore anything you buy the next 12-18 months will be overvalued.
Would avoid the NW area due to lots of empty homes & most of this area is on septic tanks & well water.
Sandoval is an ok community.
The best thing you can do is find a decent place to rent for a year & spend the year getting to know the area.
You really have to live here for awhile to get a taste of what Fort Myers & Cape Coral is really like & the places you'd want to live.

rent!! stick with established neighborhoods. there are a couple of really nice neighborhoods off del prado (savona, palaco grande, beach parkway) that have affordable homes for rent. coronado parkway also has quite a few good homes and duplexes. check out a couple of local realty companies (raso, wonderland, island coast)because they do property management as well. good luck!!

If you really do your homework you might find something to rent with the option to buy also.

One big thing about that, you really have to be careful during this market, and that goes for anywhere in the US. Lots of people rent-to-own, only to find that the actual owner goes into foreclosure. I saw a sad case concerning that in California.
Glad to "see" you NYBill. I thought you were swept away in that bad weather you had a couple of months ago. I was worried!

Stablizing
Still here..this thread has cooled down, thank God for small favors
Been doing a lot of fishing as of late, lots of off shore stuff with some new people I met...so needless to say LONG hours on the H2O.
I have been following but just not responding to a pure P/match.
I am happy, I fish, made some great new friends and I fish BTW, market stinks but that's all over not just here, It's nation wide.
Don't worry we will outgrow it. Always have since I owned homes.
