Please... no need to flame over me! I don't want this thread closed like the others.
I have seen enough to know that I need to look behind the doors.
I'd just like specifics. I am from the Philadelphia corridor originally and lived in Virginia for the last 20 years.
If anything was to be compared... for my sake it would be Hampton Roads Vs. Lee County... Not Detroit fair enough.
All crime is reported by all local news, to what extent maybe one thing.
But back on point.
I am taking it all in and will use it... Still, NO ONE will directly answer my questions. What areas would you suggest I look at? Which should I stay away from? What are the questions an Idiot should be asking themselves and others about moving to the area? So far I am getting the same things I have already acquired myself from reading local media and these forums that I find very informative. I am just being selfish. I am want help for me!
I am just fine where I am now, but I see an opportunity to thrust myself ahead of the game, if the ground I am considering walking on is not quicksand. That is what I am trying to ascertain.
Can ya categorically tell me No-Go and Go areas... Anyone? What are the +/- of each?
Thanks for the support! Everyone!!!

Oh, baby doll, no one is fighting over you. Have you read the entire thread? You were not here three years ago.

If you cannot derive an answer for this forum it probably means it is time to visit.

Id' like to ask YOU a question. Why are you considering a move to Cape Coral? The answer will speak volumes.

I wish...........I could certainly use the $, or even a free breakfast at this time of year. Maybe one of the York's are listening?

vIce gRip....I really cant think of any one particular place IN Cape Coral that I would say you need to avoid. Fort Myers is a different story, but that isnt the area of study here. You dont find much in the way of "street crime" in Cape Coral. The home invasion, break in, burglary, grab 'n snatch from vehicles is more the Cape style........... Hopefully that helps clarify things a bit for you. It's that reason why (IMHO) there is so much disparity in opinions here. On the surface, Cape Coral doesnt LOOK like a crime infested, downtrodden area. It doesnt LOOK like an unsafe place. But the reality is nonetheless reported every day in the papers, and on the local TV news.

Hik asks a good question, what is your interest in moving here, must be more too it than it seems like a good "opportunity"......

LOL!!! I have read lots of these... I was just adding some humorous relief!

I have stated it before, but will again for the sake of forward progress.
1st, we were looking at the Cape, FM, Naples area in general. Heart was not stead-fast on the Cape though seemed lots of house for small money.

So the situation is...
We saw the potential to sell our home up here with free and clear of about 250K after all is done. Heading down to that area, cause it seemed cheaper and buying the equivalent of what we had here Cash ($150-$220) with some coin to drop in emergency funds, Kids College, etc... The wife is in the medical field so she can find work anywhere. What I do is another thing, but initially I would sell my business and become Mr. HomeDad until I can find my niche. Regardless, being debt free should allow us to live well on 1 income for a while.
Two of my wife's sisters live in FL. One in Boyton and the other in FM. I was wanting to move a little out of the fast lane. I am a Farm Raised City-Boy and like the idea of a slower pace so the left coast seemed more fitting than Palm etc. The wife really wants a change and FL is #1 on her list.
As we have two young girls, it seemed if we were to uproot, better do it now before the older one hits Middle/Junior school... less painful for the kids.

Was that enough info? Too much? No relevant or specific enough?

Priority though is the Kids well being, safety and likelihood to succeed rather than being druggies or otherwise useless citizens.

Gotcha. Loud and clear. Good job.

Wife's need for change does not always equal the kid's success. Wife's need should be the education of the children. It is mine.

We moved to Tennessee because I have five children. Four of them were raised in New England, where public education was superior. What I saw in Florida, after four weeks, is not acceptable.

End of story.

Go down there if that is not your concern.

Could I possibly make it more simple?

There is no "bad area's" in Cape Coral. The SE & SW are more developed than the NE & NW so it would depend on what you are looking for. I do know that the north sections got hit the hardest with foreclosures as most built when prices were high.

yachtcare,

Your posts are honest, fair, and very informative.
You have helped many people through your posts.
You are the one who started the thread on Chinese Dry Walls.
Look at the wealth of information we all get from HomeStager.
Needless to write that you are highly respected.

I read that greed and speculation created the monster in Cape Coral. I would like to add that "ignorance" took us to where we are now.

There is a reason why homes are cheap in Cape Coral. They are cheap because they are made cheaply in a city with no vision for future and much less so as the issue of Chinese dry walls becomes more public. It is not Cape Coral's best kept secret any more.

If one buys a house in Cape Coral and finds out that it has Chinese dry walls, the value of it falls to ZERO, instantly.
Your home insurance will not cover lost. The bank will not care and you will have to pay for your mortgage even though you abandon the house, the City does not help and the construction company is either not there or is wrapped up suing the manufacturer (Knauf) of Chinese dry walls.
You are left alone with no help except, unless you join a class action law suit while your health deteriorates.

If you buy a house in Cape Coral where neighbors' houses have Chinese dry walls, you must worry what will happen to your health while all those houses are getting re-build. The dust of Chinese dry walls are very toxic.
Like having a bandage on cancer, who would ever want to live in such re-built homes knowing that the foundation of the house is contaminated for ever with chemicals which can end up killing you inside your own home, no matter what is the crime rate outside your door.

The City has no money. It voluntarily cut his own source of revenue by cutting taxes on speculative land owners who mostly do not even live in Cape Coral. Land in Cape Coral is already very cheap to lure any buyers. Such tax cuts only make potential buyers only suspicious why Cape Coral is so desperate, sensing an instable future, they stay away.
At the same time by adding taxes for all sort of public services, elderly are double taxed for the same service and are forced to leave to skip additional financial burden.

Because the City does not have money to control Nile lizards, we have to endure their effect on home prices too.

A new wave of foreclosed homes will hit the housing market soon. As these homes are reported to be nicer and cheaper, they will push down the price of current houses even further.

Unemployment rate is much higher than 12% as many do not have the paper and their number of being unemployed is lost in official statistics.
To earn some money such construction workers are removing toxic walls. They do not even have the insurance to deal with health problems caused by Chinese dry walls.

Around the world, Cape Coral is known to be a cheap place to buy houses. Whoever comes is purely for the sake of cheap houses without knowing what is the real cost to their health by living in toxic homes or having toxic water caused by contaminated landfills. City has no money to worry about this problem or many other problems!

If we hide problems of Cape Coral we are no better than those criminals who rob you on the street.
