I am also a pretty strong fit person, and when I get milk and a loaf of bread and you ask me if I need help to the car? I get offended. LOL Like they think I am uncapable.
Ok. I'm done. Sorry to have posted, but it kinda went with the whole groceryfrustrationbuck deal.
If someone is taking tips from you at Publix, and management finds out, they WILL be fired. There is huge pressure to bring out your cart from management. It's part of the service -- sans tip -- and they also want to insure that they get their cart back in the right spot.

It's just being cornered at the register and asked for money when you went in to shop, that galls me.
Oh,by the way,I stopped giving to United Way when they cut the Boy Scouts of America off over they gay scoutmaster issue.
United Way spends an incredible amount of money on administration. You probably remember the big brouhaha about the president at one time. Very little trickles down to the charities.

Whatever you do, no matter what; never, ever give to someone soliciting over the phone. They will often tell you they are with the VFW (sounds good but it isn't), the cops (they aren't) or some children's charity (another scam). Just don't do it.

The bell ringers are usually the Salvation Army. I call that putting good out into the universe. It always comes back to you.

I wouldn't want to be that person that says they donates to charity and doesn't.

For the record, I really believe Samiamnh and his wife do. Just a feeling.

I can't believe it, this is what y'all are complaining about.
With all the real problems that could use some attention and energy put it to, to make the world a better place this is what y'all are fixating on.
Unbelievable.

I never heard of this in my entire 17+ years in SWFL. I've shopped in over a dozen Publix stores too.

Also, they do not work on tips. In fact, they're not allowed to take tips.

The cashiers also never "ask you for a buck." They ask if you'd like to make a donation to..... All you need to do is smile and say "no" or "not today." Some people say no, some people give a dollar, and some give $5 or $10. It's totally up to you.

I can't say why, but I'm the last person on this planet who would jump to the defense of Publix. However, I feel that most people who work there are polite and professional.

Sorry, I posted before seeing your comment on tipping. I also didn't realize there was pressure to take carts, probably because I rarely have a full cart of groceries. Still, I've never seen a "cart showdown." Maybe I just haven't been paying attention.

Oy! I think I might be off-topic, but that's a pet peeve of mine. Why do people leave carts in the middle of parking spaces?

Those thin mint cookies are yummy, aren't they? If you don't like cookies, you can ask one of the little girls to donate the box to our brave men & women serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Better yet - buy 2 boxes and take one home!

Right up there with not allowing cargo trailers in your front yard

No - not true.

However, I had to give Equal a rep. Fair is fair.

Agree to disagree. When you buy into an area with the said codes - you know what the code is or you didn't research enough.

Likewise with charities - They've been around since the beginning of time. Especially in this economy, they are out in full force.

You know that both are around - you can either chose to "donate" or chose not to. Life is full of choices - you chose to do something or don't, but if you choose to do something you chose to not do something else.

Each of us have our own "fights" if you will. Equal's is about having a cargo trailer in his front yard. To me (and possibly many others) that is a trivial complaint - just like he's mentioning about people complaining about charities and Girl Scout cookies.

BUT the thing is - there's how many "cargo trailer / Cape Coral sucks" posts out there compared to 1 post about charities. I guess some people don't truly believe that there's "equal rights for everyone".

By the way, I've been asked a couple of times now at Publix and Sweetbay if I needed help taking out the groceries to the car - and other than being fat - there's nothing wrong with me (37 year old male)

Agree!

Fair is fair? I don't get it. I'm not kidding.

If you agree to buy in an area you should understand the rules. If you ignored them, didn't research or decided you'd change things after the fact that is no reason to constantly whine about it. I think it's fine to discuss but people have constantly said they bought in CC because of these rules and they don't want to see them change. The same thing happened when it was brought up at the city level.

So things aren't changing. At this point one either lives with it, gets enough people to agree with him, runs for office and tries to change it internally or moves away.

Constantly ranting about it on the forum isn't changing anything.

So now he's laughing at someone's post? And it is nothing that anyone considers rant-worthy, by the way. I think the only one that seems to be making it into that is him.

It's been a civil discussion and everyone says they donate to charity. Whether that's true or not, I don't know.

But no one is going on and on about Girl Scouts or donations. There's been lots and lots and lots of posts about cargo trailers and neighborhood Nazis, though.
