I beg to differ with you, oldfart. Lee County does not have zillions of septic tanks. I dont' know where in Florida you live, but I've lived in Lee County for over 30 yrs and the use of septics over the last 20 yrs or so has dropped.

We don't have a township here in Lee County.

Florida

150,000 of them were installed in Lee County.............I know that the cape has converted many to city sewers.

Just trying to make a point!!

The walls measured at 81 degrees and the air is set at 69. We are not going to afford the cost of keeping the a/c running.
First send a letter to the landlord via certified mail return reciept outlining all of the problems. Include the fact that they have refused to do anything about the AC per the telephone conversation you had. Then list all of the other problems as well. You need a paper trail in case you have to go to court. Communicate by mail & and make copies of the letters you send the landlord.
I had a similar problem with a house that had no attic insulation & $500 a month AC bills. This house was rebuilt after the last hurricane and the owner was unaware that his contractor didn't insulate the attic.
Water backing up into the house through sinke & toilets is a septic issue and it has to be cleaned & pumped out.
If the landlord refuses to fix anything stop paying the rent & save your money to move to another place. Let him evict you & then present your certified letters plus take pictures as well if you are summoned to court.
Landlords under Florida law must make a rental "habitable" which in this case it clearly is not. Hope that helps.

the air is new and was just put in. There is no insulation in the ceiling or walls(at least thats what the contractor told us). By the way The air is not always at 69 its usually at 74.. i was using that as an example(maybe a bad one).. The landlord finally sent someone for the roof but they told us it would be very expensive to fix and would need to talk to the landlord.. they have yet to do anything about the toilets and showers. Thanks for all your input
