I would prefer North Fort Myers in the areas of Riverbend, Admiralty, Daugherty Creek. It is a quick trip into Fort Myers with no toll. There are boat ramps nearby and it is right on the river. It is close to 75 for a 35 minute trip to the beach(if with no traffic). It is also close to shopping all along Bayshore. The crappy area, Suncoast is a couple of miles away. No different than many places on Long Island where you may have nice areas a couple miles from crummy ones.

Orange River/Palm beach Blvd is not a great area. You'll need razor wire on top of an electronic fence.
Close to I-75 though.

Glad to see you managed to spell it wrong twice in the same thread. M Y E R S. The Shores are kind of run down, that is why the prices are so cheap. Anything off Palm Beach is pretty bad all the way down the river. The access from way up there isn't great, unless you really enjoy the river, it will literally take you over an hour to get out.

That area can be pretty rough, there is one development that we lived in that was safe and that's river forest- other than that, its not so safe. Plus you are quite a ways out there, I liked the other side of the river better like Rikoshaprl stated that area was pretty nice. BUT it will take forever to get the to gulf there are alot of slow manatee zones and you will grow to hate it if you want to go anywhere but the river. If you only want to boat on the river there are some nice pockets of homes on the water-most are older and need to be fixed up, you will have a $2500/flood ins bill and since these are older homes you will only get insurance from citizens and if you are on water, you will probably have a large homeowners bill so figure that into your cost. You might pay more in the cape, but some areas are not zoned flood and they are newer homes so you will have lower monthly costs.

Please feel free to pm me, we just spent 8months searching for a home on the water, we went up and down both sides of the river so if you have any questions about areas just ask.
