Dirty and run down? That is a ridiculous statement. There are certain parts of Fort Myers that are not the greatest. However, to generalize the whole area as dirty and run down is just silly. There are many many areas and entire zip codes that are absolutely lovely and very safe. Check out 33919 or 33908. Both very nice areas and quite affordable. There are also wonderful places off of Daniels between 41 and 75. Beautiful, safe and definitely not dirty or run down.

As far as crime goes, most of Fort Myers is plenty safe. Again, check out the zip codes and areas I referred to. Where we live, locking our doors or leaving our bicycles unlocked is not a concern--and our neighborhood is not in a gated community.

Your biggest concern should be the economy. Jobs are few and far between. Our area was hit hard, and there are oodles of people who are desperate for work.

Good luck to you!
