I live on the east coast, but was just in Cape Coral, right next to Ft. Myers, over Labor Day. If you're into the beach, the actual cities of Ft. Myers and Cape Coral, the two largest in Lee County, don't have anything in the way of beaches that I'm aware of. You have to go to Ft. Myers Beach (a separate city), or Sanibel to go to the beach. On the weekend, that can be a real hassle. Lee County's nice, definitely less developed than the east coast, but Naples is a lot nicer than Ft. Myers or Cape Coral.

Naples is very expensive depending on where you look for a home. Fifth Avenue is great for restaurants and strolling the shoppes.
Make sure you check about the flooding though. Naples, Ft. Myers, Lehigh Acres, and other areas have had alot of flooding from all the rain.
They said it's the sheet flow from the north. Homes have been getting water in them in Lee and Collier Counties.
