Default JOBS! Where are they? Moving to Cape Coral in Mid-December from CT

Hello!

I'm moving from Connecticut to Cape Coral in the middle of December 2011. I have been job hunting for about 1.5 months. I've applied to numerous positions without response, assuming it's because I live out of state.

Anyone have any luck/ideas on applying and getting interviews while living out of state?!

JOBS There aren't any around here, except some low wage service industry one's.
That is what has always flabbergasted me, the same people that tell everyone what a great place this is to live and to invest in real estate in also tell everyone not to move here without having a job lined up.
It's one of those really weird things.

I tell people Cape Coral is a great deal if you are retired, want a second home or don't need a job. If you need a job that is another thing entirely. You do not move until you have a FIRM job offer in place. I have numerous posts like that, one on the front page of the Florida forum right now saying Cape Coral is the best deal but only if you don't need a job.

By the way, I'm from the MA/CT line and still have family up there as well as in Florida. Cape Coral is far worse off regarding jobs. You don't move until you check out the job situation. Not every area is the same across the country.

If this person is applying for jobs, it stands to reason that your statement "The aren't any jobs around here," is rather moot. How can one apply for a job that isn't there? There are jobs, there just aren't jobs for people with no skills and/or education. There are no minimum wage jobs, I will agree with you there, that's because of the severe under-education of the people here that are of working age. So before slathering yet another person with negative remarks based on your own delusional Southwest Florida experience, get a little more information from the person.

There are DEFINITELY numerous jobs available, even in the tiny sector I'm in (Nonprofit) just sitting and waiting on replies to over 15 job applications in around 1.5 months I blame it in part to simply my application being from 1000 plus miles away! Thanks for your input Thatsjusthewayitis

Look, I have loads of family that live in Cape Coral alone. It is NOT because you are not in the area.

The only place right now that seems to be hiring is LMHS and that's harder than Fort Knox to get into unless you have a friend or family already on the inside.

It won't be easy trying to apply for and find a job while being out of state..but I don't suggest you come here unless you have a job lined up.

I know ppl who have been out of work for a long time..it's not an easy time..and if you're will to lower your standards, you m ight find something in food service.

So basically all the jobs that are posted in the area are fake? They just put them out there because they think it's fun to have people send in applications for jobs that don't exist? Wow, maybe you can just get a job just posting these bogus job openings, sounds like a lot of fun.

LMHS doesn't even do referrals, so knowing someone is not relevant. Right now LMHS has over 200 job postings on their website.

Whoa there. it's is well documented on this forum that there are no jobs here. And everyone agrees that if you don't have a job don't move here. All an individual has to do is go through the forum. Take a deep breath before you have a kaniption.
Many companies will post a job opening, because they have to in many cases,- but most of the time they are filled within the companies pool of employees. That is a fact.
And calling the young people here undereducated is an insult all it's own, Lets face it the young people in this country are not properly educated because the old farts haven't been doing their part to make sure they get a proper education/ that is also an undeinghable fact. The young don't learn if the old do not teach them. And if you have uneducated young people after they leave school then it is because you got uneducated old ----- theaching them.

As this applies to computers so does it apply to the young that are learning from the old
"Purgamentum init, exit purgamentum (Garbage in, garbage out!)"

Don't blame the young that are failing, blame the old that aren't teaching them.
