My boyfriend and I have been living in Fort Myers now for seven months. We like SW Florida a lot, and plan on settling down here. We've been living in Gulfstream Isles, and with all the crime that's happened here and around the area in the past month or so, it's jump started our search to move to a quieter area. We'd like to purchase a house and we really like the Cape. Not going to settle until we do more research, which brings me to my question- last night after we left our friends house in the Cape we had to make a quick stop at Target, so we decided to go to the one on Veterans and Santa Barbara. Is that not a nice area? It seemed extremely ghetto. I was just over there last week during the day, and it was completely different last night.

You live than a mile from Pine Manor and you think Santa Barbara and Veterans is "extremely ghetto?" Although there are some older homes and a lot of duplexes in that area, which lead to lower rent it's not a bad or unsafe area by any means. You are surrounded by far worse where you live now.

Lisa, what seemed ghetto about the area? The stores? The surrounding homes? The people?

I'm not saying where I live now is great. Like I said in my original post, there has been a lot of crime around here. BUT what I am trying to say is I was surprised last night. It seemed ghetto because of the people hanging out in the parking lot and in the store.

We have seen some nice homes in that area, off Santa Barbara, so I wanted to make sure it was just been a fluke last night and not what it's typically like.

I don't know what to tell ya. I have been over there many times and see basically the same type of people I see everywhere else in the Cape, but the weirdos do come out at night. Generally speaking that area is safe and usually fairly quiet once you are off the main drags.

I shop there often and never thought that.... There might have been some hooligans hanging out b/c schools out and everyone just got gift cards for xmas...but usually that Target isn't the ghetto type.

IMO
