I agree here also. Lee seems to be expecting a wave of babyboomers to flock here and that is simply not the case. You're seeing younger people moving here. The babyboomers seem to be targeting other areas and even other countries as their retirement locations. I know the Smokies and Arizona are two new big retirement destinations. Lee county is too crowded for the older crowd (which is fine with me) and the county needs to realize that they aren't going to be the largest demographic.
And on side note to chromedome, McDonalds does seem to be a hangout but I'm sure that is going to change because Cape High students are making McDonalds their fighting grounds so that they can't get in trouble for fighting on school grounds. This an example of how teens need to start giving if they want to get.

LOL. And dont think I'm bashing SW Fl. Its my favorite area of Florida. I originally joined to argue with FedUpInFtMyers because he was selling Tampa off on the Ft. Myers forum as a way safer area and that is simply not the case. I think Tampa has the WORST youth problem in the nation. Some of the things I here from people who move to Lee county from Hillsborough shocks me. In fact most of the grow houses busted in Lee are making the drugs to sell in Tampa. I just couldn't believe the pistol thing either.

I am not a man, and I say "Tampa Bay" as I used to live in St. Petersburg and dealt with NONE of this garbage that is Ft. Myers. I am not selling anything. There are some very real differences between here and St. Petersburg, Largo, Clearwater, and yes, even Tampa. We regularly drive back up there just to hang out and not be bothered or have to witness the socially inappropriate behaviors that have become so commonly accepted here. While anywhere in Tampa Bay, I have yet to encounter the trash that we have here. Never in my 5 years of living there did I have even one incident such as any listed in this thread or others. Pretty sad that your need to argue with me caused you to join a Forum. I have never lived in Tampa nor have I lived in Hillsborough County, and I have never held myself out to be an expert in the area. All I know is what I see, and I see very extreme differences between Tampa Bay and here.
inftmyers - I wasn't aware that we were having an argument; therefore, I am ending it here and now. Please know that I will not be arguing on the CD Forum with you concerning my years of personal experiences. That is not the purpose of this thread or CD Forum.

Argue was a bad choice of words. I just wanted to give real info. I'm fine that you prefer Tampa over Ft. Myers. But scaring the he** out of people by saying your friends carry guns is way extreme. I meant I wanted to argue my point because it seems that there are a lot of negatives on here. You're very lucky to not have experienced that in Tampa Bay because I experience it every time I go up there. I apologize if I made you mad but you made me mad by saying you need to be worried about getting shot in Ft. Myers. If you really want out of Ft. Myers I wish you luck on selling your house and hope that you enjoy Tampa Bay. And I also apologize to the thread starter for hijacking her thread but I just didn't want her to get a one sided story.

I confused FedUpInFtMyers with FloridaNative2. FloridaNative2 made the gun comment. Sorry.

They will build a new mall full of stores and I know teens who will go there just to vandalize it. Unfortunatley its the 3 teens who vandalize who get noticed and not the 300 teens who can actually act civilized.
And on a side note, when I say Lee has little crime I'm talking about the crime FedUpInFtMyers is talking about. Saying that you need to carry a gun everywhere you go. That is FAR from the truth.

It was FloridaNative2 that made the guncomment btw not FedUpInFtMyers. Sorry.

Yes I did, and it IS true! Most business people carry guns. You have not lived long enough to judge others. I remember when Fort Myers was a decent place to live, and I am sad to say that it is not anymore.

No, FEDUpInFortMyers never said that, though she is frequently afraid, living there.
I hate to say this, and some of my friends in this thread are going to be mad, but here's the deal.
First of all, having something to do, like a pool hall or a teen rec area is nice. And being in an area that caters to retirees is going to allow young people to go by the way side. Yes. Lee County is not set up for young people.
But here's the deal...
Teenagers need to study and socialize with other kids in a decent environment.
Here in Tennessee, kids have three things to keep them occupied....
School
Church
Sports
In no particular order.
Am I a holy roller? No. Anyone that knows me, knows that I have issues with organized religion.
But that is the reality. Kids of that age need to have an interest to belong to. Take ballet or karate.
The kids need to be worried about the college they will get into. Are they volunteering? That will get them into a great college.
And this is from a woman that has five kids from 29 to 7. Did I do it perfectly? No. I did it horribly.
But a town does not owe your children.
I grew up in a town up North that had the same complaint. "The kids have nothing to do."
It is up to the parents to find something for the kids to do, even if it means watching a movie together, making them mow the lawn or do homework.
No kid should be hanging out at McDonald's.
And remember. I suck as a parent. I just know the mistakes I made.

heres the update on tonights activities.
we went to hang out at the mcdonalds got kicked out.
went to hang out at hustlers, got kicked out,
went to hangout at the beach, kicked out.
me and my friends just went home. the rest of the kids went to one of their houses to drink.
had there been something to do, they wouldnt have to resort to alcohol to occupy their time.
lol i even asked one of cape corals finest, where we can go to hangout and he said were supposed to be at home asleep.
so people aged 17-20 should be home asleep at 11pm on a saturday night. i almost laughed out loud
