Without going into too much detail, I'll say I used to work for the school district. Fort Myers High School is the golden child of the Lee county school distric because the building supervisor (Butch Strickland) is long time golfing buddies with the superintendent James Browder. When Butch told the maintenance department jump, Don Easterly said how high! The fact that Dion Sanders went their helps too. They also have the crown jewel of local annual political events there every spring too. The Edison festival of light parade ends at the school stadium. I know because I had to take the fence down, as we do every year, so the parade floats and people can slither onto the track and make a U-turn. I resigned in 2005 because, compared to the local economy at the time, the school district paid crap. Wouldn't have done any good as my old job was downsized anyways. The rest of the schools leave much to be desired. Some good, some bad, some really bad, just like anyhwere else. With the exception that the good old boy club is alive and well here in Lee County Politics.
