My hubby works in Fort Myers. We have no desire to live there. Too expensive & too crowded. We moved a little further north to the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte area & it is nice up here.
Not perfect, but nice. We are content & there are a few elementary schools that are decent & a private school that is also suppose to be very good.

I keep posting the history of the last Florida land crash and the signs of the crash. The writing is on the wall and the roads and the news and yes on the city data forum also. I just don't understand why we still get the all you want to do is hurt sales in Florida reply. Greed is blind !!!

If you care about your children, pleeease dont raise them in ft myers.
im 20 years old so i can speak as an insider in matters of what the youth is doing.
the drug use, and alcohol abuse in this area by young people is ridiculous dont let the facade of the palm trees and the beaches fool you into thinking otherwise.
this is in comparison to what young people did in the new york metro area

Each day things look twice as bad as the day before. I'm still waiting for the impact from insurance law changes, And now the taxes will be cut and the ISO for HOI will rise. This is a no win deal so far.

Now you're just trying to get on my nerves. I am NOT selling my house, I love it here and have no desire to leave. The kids are not bad, in fact it is SW FL kids that keep going to D.C. to try and get antibullying legislation passed. Yes there are kids that do drugs and have sex but thats a national problem, not a local problem. I think most (not all) of the people being negative about Lee Co. are just doing it to scare potential buyers away because they don't like how crowded its getting here. Its all about your preference and somepeople don't like SW Fl, but I think it would be a shame for people to rule it out just because of the lies they see on this board.

I was born and raised here and I thought crime was worse in the early 90's. It wasn't the hispanics either, it was white trash. They have since been priced out of the area.

I agree, I don't see the crime that these people are seeing. I thought I was missing something and checked the stats. I feel safe in Ft. Myers (wouldn't go in E Ft. Myers tho). I feel safe in Cape Coral also. Most of my friends don't even lock their doors.

Why would you think some one is trying to scare potential buyers. The last thing I could care about is if a person buys a home or not. But a person needs to know what they are getting into and what the economy is doing. I'm here each day and see all this stuff. What do you do in Fort Myers ? If you think anything I post is wrong prove it. I will post the facts of where my info came from. When was the last time youv'e seen a 14 year old overdose or kids dead from stupid gang violence, or a senior blow thier head off because they think they can't afford to live here anymore and have nowhere to go? When you can, let me know. This is what I see each day first hand up close
Earlier post by inftmyers--I think that is why so many people are posting negatives about lee county! You don't like the fact that it is growing so you are trying to scare potential buyers away buy acting like Lee county is a crime haven. The sheriff website isn't a statistic because it doesn't compare lee to other counties. Yes Lee has crime but not nearly as much as other areas of florida.
And you know this why? Its seem the only thing you keep posting about is scare potential buyers away.

Thank you for posting the truth of things here. I appreciate your insight as a younger adult. I have never seen anything like it, either, and I speak of what I have witnessed and encountered in the older crowd: 30s, 40, even
50s. I grew up in Chicagoland and then moved to Tampa Bay for five years. I've never seen anything like this. There is no real age of maturity or responsibility in this area, and that has an adverse effect and takes its toll on everyone living here.

I agree. I feel safe walking at night all by myself and I do it often. There are definately areas I wouldn't walk in such as central and east fort myers but every town has that not just Ft. Myers. Its nice to have someone tell it as it is and not overexagerate. FedUpInFtMyers, I go to Busch Gardens all the time because I have had season passes and I have never in my life seen more disrespectful kids than when I go there. They cut in line and justify it because they live in Tampa and think they have a right to be at the front of the line. If you don't mind me asking what area of Ft. Myers are you from and what area of Tampa do you visit. I just can't believe that you think Tampa is more moral than Ft. Myers. Maybe you're in a bad area.
