thanks, ive been reading alot of the posts on the site before deciding to join and i figured input from a younger person wouldnt hurt.

its sad how much people DONT know about what their teenage children are really doing out here.

in the 3 years that ive lived in this area, ive been offered more cocaine, weed and pills than i ever was in the inner city northeast. and the bulk of it has been from middle to upper class, seemingly "good" kids in the nicer neighborhoods of cape coral and fort myers.

the youth in this area desperately needs something to occupy ther time!

all those kids you see hanging out in front of the bell tower or coralwood movie theater "causing trouble" are there because theres nothing else for them to do!

i can name of no less than 20 instances in which people i know have commited crimes because of sheer boredom. you can only go to ft myers beach and get kicked out by police so many times before you get fed up and do something else

Hmmm, I wonder what all the "non-crime committing, non-bored" youth are doing in the northeast to keep busy?

THANKYOU! Youth drug and alcohol problems start because our kids down here see the examples set in Chicago, Atlanta, and New York by these rappers and hip hop artists. I am in my early twenties I am also aware of what these kids are doing. Everyone is going to be offered something in their life, its up the individual to say "yes" or "no."

lol. nobody is claiming that theres no crime in the northeast.

all im saying is that, alot of parents here are blind to the fact that everything they ran away in fear from by leaving big cities, IS in fort myers just the same if not worse then where they came from. its just not out in the open.

add to that the fact that theres practically nothing for young people to do here, and you can figure out the rest

what type of kid is more susceptible to peer pressure, one with something to occupy their time or one struggling to find entertainment?

The city and county don't like to do much for kids. But the drug dealers are doing all they can for the kids. Candy-coated meth has hit the streets of Southwest Florida. Officials with the Lee County Sheriff's Office say they haven't confiscated any candy meth yet, but local drug counselors say the drug is here in our area - and lots of kids know about it. This is sad !!!!

I know kids get wrapped up in things when they get bored but what is out there that could keep them occupied. IDK honestly. What does Lee county need to keep them occupied?
Also I know there is crime here also. But some people make it seem like it is so much worse than other areas which is not true.

prime example of what im talkin about.

Drug use by young people in this area is wayyyyyyyy higher then most people know or would like to believe.

every monday like clockwork in cape coral highschool. there would be conversations of what people did over the weekend. 90% of these conversations were about how much coke they snorted, how much weed they did and how many shots they drank.

Those who wana dismiss that as "kids trying to sound cool"

i suggest you make a surprise visit to a typical teenage party and see what really goes on there.

smh @ the blindness of some people

i see what youre saying. thats the problem there really is NOTHING here to kill time with.

im 20 years old and i have no idea what im gona do tonight because theres nothing to do here until you hit 21 (legal club/drinking age)

there isnt even any real "town square" type areas where at the very least kids can go and hang out and be around other kids. (im speaking moreso for teenagers)

at one point there was a teen club in bonita springs at Q's billiard hall. kids from as far as lehigh would go there. now that it closed down.thats just that many more bored kids from the area struggling for something to do.

all there is to do is ...

house parties- which get shut down by the police within 2 hours

hanging out at the movies- which people complain about, usually ending in kids getting kicked out

ft myers beach. more of an older ambience, since its mostly bars/adult nightclubs/lounges in the area.

downtown ft myers- same older vibe as fort myers beach.

maybe im going too far with this, but this is something that has bothered me ever since i first moved to cape

lately me and my friends have been playing basketball at a local court. and even there. a police officer kicked us out of the because we were "making too much noise"

it was 8.30 PM on a friday night. when this happened.

this is why you will see dozens of kids at the mcdonalds on santa barbara any weekend. thats practically the only place where you can have any social interaction with people your age outside of school. until the cops come and tell you to leave..

I agree with the 21 thing. I couldn't wait until I was 21 because there is so much more to do for that age group. I do think that teens need to start showing respect if they expect to start getting recognized by the county. They will build a new mall full of stores and I know teens who will go there just to vandalize it. Unfortunatley its the 3 teens who vandalize who get noticed and not the 300 teens who can actually act civilized.
And on a side note, when I say Lee has little crime I'm talking about the crime FedUpInFtMyers is talking about. Saying that you need to carry a gun everywhere you go. That is FAR from the truth.

Your right, This is the bad thing about the area. Most of the area was based on the 55 and over people. Kids don't have much to do anymore.
