Dog killed 2-month-old baby, ripped child

A supposedly "gentle" pooch named Lucky is suspected of killing a 2-month-old baby and tearing the child's body apart in South Carolina.
Aiden McGrew, who was born on Valentine's Day and was the youngest of three children, was found dead in his family's mobile home Friday in Ridgeville by his mother, according to The Post and Courier newspaper.
The baby was in a swing when Lucky, a golden retriever-Labrador mix, bit the child several times and tore off his legs, authorities said.
The child's father, Quintin, was in the home at the time, police said. He was in another room asleep with the family's 3-year-old and their other dog.
The baby was discovered when his mother, Chantel, came home after taking their seven-year-old to a doctor's appointment, The Post and Courier reported.
"This... is about as bad as it can get for us as police officers," Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight said at a press conference Friday. "I've been doing this a lot of years and haven't seen one like this."
It is unclear why the father did not wake up when the baby was attacked, police said. The mother told 911 at the time that her husband was still asleep when she got home.
Shirley Pargiello, 70, a next-door neighbor to the McGrew family, told The Post and Courier that Lucky was "a very gentle dog."
"It's a beautiful dog," she said. "I went over to say hi one day, and he came right up to me and stopped. I rubbed his head, then he left.”
No charges have been filed in the case, which police said was still "under investigation."

Here are the statistics from dogbite.com from 2008 to 2012
attacks by golden/lab mix 1 deaths 0
attacks by pit bull terriers 1,970 deaths 207 (826 attacks were children)
That you have culled out one incident only shows that you are ignoring the facts

And yet you came back to prove a point by posting "1 article" ?

If you don't want people to "bash" you then stop "antagonizing" them.

Why would you want this breed to exist at all? The breed is vicious. It should simply be eliminated.

^ Miami Dade county has banned pitbulls since 1989 after one jumped a neighbor's fence and mauled to death a toddler playing in his yard. Pitbull owners who are caught face a $500 fine and/or jail time in addition to having the pitbull seized. If the pitbull can't be relocated to another county they will be put to sleep.
Deaths by pitbulls in Miami Dade county since 1989? Zero.

But there have been dog attacks.

Upon a quick look, I could not find any data to back up your statement that there have been "no pit bull attacks" in Miami-Dade since the ban. I did come across some third party material that states there have been bites from pit bulls (32 in 2007), and overall, Miami-Dade has an higher than average rate of dog bites.

Do you have a source for this data?

If they did not exist, many busy bodies will just move onto something else to ban. Look at the lists that are out there of dogs that are declared as dangerous breeds, many of them are laughable. For many it is basically coming down to if the dog weighs over 25lbs, it must be dangerous.

Right now, pit bulls seem to be a large focal point for banners, they cannot really move on to other breeds until they get rid of pit bulls first.
