We have had a "promo" since we moved to Bonita Springs last year with Comcast and it's been a nightmare. Wrong cables, bad cable boxes, etc. A tech came to our house in Feb, and the next mo. our bill went up. Really? To make long story short, I ended up talking to a retention specialist who quoted me an offer on March 6th. Since then the bills have been wrong. I've called in March and April and finally found out today that he person who quoted me the offer on March 6th didn't enter it in in the system properly, so our bill is nearly 3 times what they quoted me. Although 3 reps could see I should have been charged the lesser amount and ended up giving me credit on last 2 mo. bills, today the rep said, basically, too bad...that isn't what your rate is. Then she went on to say they couldn't offer a promo within 90 days of a prior promo. I said, then why did she? I have dates, times of calls, names of reps and good notes.

I'm so mad. Not to mention I have over 5 hours cell phone minutes used up for this stuff....

Bottom line. What are my other options for HDTV and high speed internet. I want a DVR and digital HD.

I'm over it.

Thanks, and sorry for the rant. HELP!!!

ComCast Cable TV In SW Florida....They have a major software problem and refuse to admit it. The digital receivers, major freeze ups and all out poor HD performance stations are not operating properly including no sound, failure to record on DVR and refusal to allow subscribed channels.
Oh, my bill is different every month- plus they have 0% engineering experience.

There is limited service from Century Link/Prism TV, Direct TV is so mismanaged that its difficult to get an honest quote from any one of their numerous vendors.

I was once a Comcast FAN, but I now see their incompetance- IMHO. Maybe a new roof antenna is in the future(NOT)

I finally had it with Comcast 2 years ago and went back to Directv, the only reason I switched to Comcast was because they offered me an insane promo, which was 25% of what I was paying with Directv. I never got charged what I was quoted, they charge so much for add-ons, which they fail to mention, that my bill was almost as much as Directv for less channels. But they made me enter into a 2 year agreement, which they would have charged me a prorated amount for early termination (only reason I even stayed 2 years.) Their equipment is old, unreliable, and outdated, the lines and services before they reach the house are absolutely ridiculous, and the customer service is the worst. After switching to Directv I get every channel available, far more HD channels, whole house DVR, 1 extra HD box, and a standard box for half of what my Comcast bill was, and I can also get NFL Sunday Ticket which isn'te even available on cable. There are no cables coming to the house, so if something gets messed up, its between the dish and the receiver. The guide and receivers are far better than Comcast as well. It has only gone out 3 times in the last 2 years, once a palm frond actually landed right on the dish, the other 2 times were absolutely torrential downpours, one of which knocked out the power shortly after the signal was lost. I use CenturyLink for internet, it is fast, cheap, customer service seems good, but I haven't had to call them at all in 2 years, so I am not sure about that, and I have not lost service even one time.

Billy, thanks for the feedback. We have HD....how are the HD channels? What kind of bill should we be looking at for 2HD with 1 DVR...a month? Also, have you had any problems with accurate billing, etc? Sounds like you are satisfied. You are right about Comcast's equipment. The freezeups, shutdowns, pixilations...error codes...drives us mad.

So you didn't have a good experience with DriectTV? We are old as dirt,,,have had the Comcast product since the 70s....it is so different here in FL than it was in Indiana, I can't even recognize it as the same company. All the techs that came to our home complained about the company, openly. Couldn't believe it.

I too would be interested in people's experiences with Direct TV. I am from IL and am a heavy user of Comcast - TV, broadband, and phone. It is a bit pricy but I am satisifed. Equipment does not fail and when something does go haywire in their system, they get on it right away and do not stop until it is fixed - even in the dead of winter on a weekend night. But Comcast in SWFL is a nightmare. I have only been down there for 5 months and I have already gone through 6 - count 'em 6 - DVRs. Half of them did not work from the get go and the others died within weeks. Now that they are demanding that you have an HD box ($$$) to get HD on any set, I am ready to change.

The house we bought already has a Direct TV dish attached and all of the wiring is already in place. I would think just upgrading the dish and getting new boxes would take care of it.

Up here, Direct TV is a tough sell due to the ice and snow issues in the winter causing lost signals. Do not have that problem in SWFL.

So, what is the opinion of Direct TV's TV and internet service vs Comcast. I do not need phone service. I just use my cell phone everywhere now.

i've had directv and have had cable the last 2 years. I had less problems with directv. I did lose signal during heavy ice and snow storms, but there have been times when there have been power outages that cable was down for days but yet I still had directv (generator) so I thought that made up for it. I liked Directv and every month I think of switching back to it.
My parents have directv in Cape Coral, they don't have any problems with the equipment but during heavy rains it does sometimes lose signal. The internet seems to be slower than cable but I always found it "acceptable". The only reason I switched is we moved and my wife's company pays for our internet access and they said directv internet was not compatible with their firewall.

The billing has always been what was quoted. Right now I have every channel Directv offers, including locals and HD, 2 HD Receivers, 1 whole home DVR, and one standard receiver (that never gets used) and it's around $80 with the 2 year promo, when that runs out, they will offer something else to keep you. I also order NFL Sunday Tickets every season which isn't even offered with cable. I would however not recommend the Directv internet if they still have it, I would go with CenturyLink to avoid Comcast, again I got a promo rate for the highest speed they offer and it is under $50.

I guess I'm the only person left in SWFL that's happy with Comcast.I have internet, cable and phone with 3 HD tv's.Everything works great...needed service once for a wiring problem on the outside pole and they fixed it promptly.Service guy came in and took plenty of time with us.
