My son is coming for a visit and wants to take me Pier Fishing. I thought we might go to FT Myers Beach or perhaps out to the tip of Pine Island where there are some private fishing piers....(near a restaurant); I am wondering if the water problems are affecting fishing. Is anybody catching anything?

My husband is obsessed with catching Snook on Matlacha Bridge. So far he's caught two in the slot (28" - 33"). He normally does catch and release but he's kept these two. One we ate (delicious) and the other one he's going to overnight to his dad in Idaho. Seems to be the thing to do if you like fishing! Otherwise when it's not snook season, he's at every freshwater pond he can find fishing for big, fat bass. Those he definitely throws back.

Thanks for the info......maybe we will try the Matlacha bridge. It is in Matlacha that I saw fishing piers that you could pay and go fish.

PS When I was a kid....my Dad fished for bass....but we never threw them back.....he was a young country minister and we needed them for supper. We ate bass almost once a week during fishing season.

The water quality effects the people more than the fish. You can still catch fish, the water just looks like Ice Tea, hope it clears up soon, once the rain stops.

When I lived in NH almost all the mountain lakes and ponds were the color of clear ice tea....from all the tannin in the pine needles. I never considered that to be pollution. In fact I rather liked it and thought it was good for my skin.
