Can anyone out there tell me anything about the lakes and canals in Cape Coral? I see alot of fresh waterfront homes for sale and my husband and I are boaters so would appreciate as much info about the lakes (especially pelican lake) and the canal systems. How much boating going on there, what kind, the good and bad things, just everything and anything on them. Thanks!

Depends on what kind of boating you like. If you fish then most canals are fine. Most lakes are shallow and most are full of grass. There are some lakes and canals accessible to the river then to the gulf others are not. Canals are cut off to the river via small flood control dams. That is what determains if the canal is called a fresh water canal or not. Check around on the net for maps showing the canal system or you can check with the city's public works dept. for more detailed information.
