Whenever I go for any concerts or Red Sox spring training games I have to drive in by tank fully suited in Kevlar - makes Kosovo look like a playground.
GIVE ME A BREAK.
Like anywhere, there are a few bad neighborhoods but the people who compare it to the ghetto or call it Fort Misery (the same poster who now lives in boring, white-bread NH - I lived in North-Central Mass - most boring place on Earth and cold as all heck) need to go spend some time in a real city with some real bad neighborhoods (Miami, Atlanta, Detroit, etc). Spend a few days there and report back - the big bad ghetto streets of Fort Myers will suddenly look a bit tame.
Just like others said - it is to attempt to make your city of origin appear to be much for tougher than it really is.
As far as, "Because it has one of the worst crime rates in Florida and alot of crime occurs like in Pakistan. Take a look at the Sean Taylor incident, the 4 who killed Taylor were all from Fort Myers. "
Well, lets compare (relative to population) the amount of violent criminals now residing in greater Miami and compare to the criminals residing in greater Fort Myers. I believe Miami wins hands-down.

It all depends in the area you are at. Oviously your not going to see why they call it lil Pakistan if your in that area of down town. If you go to the Dunbar area and near there, kids that are 4 years old are running around bare foot with choppers and glocks, and live on the streets. And of course Miami is going to win, its way more populated than Fort Myers. you cant compare them to each other like that. Thats like saying Houston Texas would win in crime and being way more dangerous than Key West Florida. You know what im saying? And im not trying to start any fight or arguments. But it is true, it depends were you go. And not all areas of Fort Myers are bad but its changing quick and its not going to stay the same long. Ive lived here almost my whole life (moved here from Miami) and its deffinitly going down hill.

Maybe this is why Lee County isn't interested in my nuisance problem (see new thread I started about barking dogs)
About 10 years ago, my home was burglarized and the cops seemed to be bored. Now I imagine they don't want to even be bothered with petty crimes.

You aren't comparing apples with apples. Cape Coral's population is 3 times that of Fort Myers. By the way, why do people add the "e" when it's Fort Myers? Okay, let's just look at today's paper and see..

Hmm..drive by shootings? Drug raids? Sounds like "Little House on the Prairie" to me!

There are some crappy parts, but young black youths try to be "hood" and try to make it sound like they are bad a**es. But, the guy that shot and killed Sean Taylor (one of the premier safety's in the NFL) was from Ft. Myers, as were his criminal friends that were with him.

Hey I reside on lovely Long Island New York and this is supposed to be a really nice place to live and go to school, and it is. But some areas of Long Island have drive by and drug raids but that just the way it is. Doesn't mean I'm ready to pack up and head for the mountains.
All cities have their depressed areas and as such higher than normal crime rates.
From another poster: This is from Sperling's Best Places ( under least stressful places to live )
Nassau-Suffolk, New York
Although residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties have a very long commuting journey, the area has the lowest violent and property crime rates in the country. The divorce and suicide rates are also among the lowest in the country, indicating a safe and stable place to live.
I would take Ft. Meyrs any day. BTW where do you reside??

I live in this crap hole, unfortunately, and sorry but if you have any education (not from the local "college" in town) above 8th grade, know what classical music is, and expect people to be able to speak in complete sentences, then youre in the wrong place!!!!! As for "Pakistan", jesus H, i never heard that, and to say that this place has ANy "street cred" or is "gansta" is a JOKE! this place is pathetic, overrrun with skinny white boys with 4th grade educations and droopy jeans selling oxycontin in the Publix parking lot. Give me a break! i grew up in Manhattan and then lived in Miami for years, they would die laughing to think this place has anything hard core about it. I pity the few African American gangster types here as they must be humilated to be represented by 15 year old rednecks selling pills and crack. This place is disgusting. the only thing "hard core" here IS the drug usage and selling - and even that is run by the rednecks. Sorry but i say redneck to symbolize any poor soul or group of people who have no education, no culture, no awareness of the world and are all addicted to pills.

Actually, "Lil Pakistan" is a person. A wanna-be rapper and he's from Ft. Myers. You can look him up on myspace. It doesn't literally mean that Ft. Myers is known as "Lil Pakistan"
