There were, and to this day still are, some very dumb laws that city has. Also it is filled with corruption. Example; the city sewer project, Back when it first started it was known as the "Dual Water" project. When this started there was a man who was very outspoken about being against the whole deal and he started getting a lot of attention. That same man somehow ended up with a bullet in his head in his own house. After that no one really wanted to speak out against that project. And the city FORCES you to hook up. If you don't they will place a lien against your house. So far that lien is around $18,000. This has led many people to see hard times and forced to leave their homes. With that assessment and the outrages taxes the city is charging many people have had no other choice but to leave. I hope this small glance is helpful to you to better understand why the cape is known as Little Russia.
Everyone that moves here if they did some research should know that if you don't have water and sewer that you will be getting at some date and it will cost you $$$. I moved here and decided I wanted SW and didn't get a w&s lot but knew that it was coming in the next 18 months. Haven't gotten yet because they changed plans. Will be getting this year last time I checked, but I knew about before I purchased land. Most of the rules are to help property owners because I don't want people littering or having junk yards and that was something that I liked about CC. The truck thing was just stupid.

The Cape is not that bad, sure they have crime just like everybody else jobs go away crime goes up. The new water and sewer lines was not thought up overnight if residents would pay attention they would have seen it coming and may have had time to get out. The one thing I can't see living in the Cape is, they have more people then Fort Myers and even less industry or jobs to sustain the residents. I can't see sitting in my car day after day in traffic with the cost of gas and tolls to live in the Cape. I'm not bashing the Cape but after living in Ft. Myers for 30+ years I still can't see any reason.

it may be considered unincorporated lee county. it looks like it's right on the border of north fort myers (which is NOT fort myers) and cape coral. it'd probably be best to deal with the county.

You think you have a hard time selling vehicles in Boston? Try Lee County.

Her tax bill will tell you if its Cape Coral or North Fort Myers. If its unincorporated lee county (North Fort Myers) you won't to have worry about it.

Default Moving to Cape Coral

I was searching threads and came across this series about Ft Myers and Cape Coral - I am looking at living in Cape Coral starting in mid-February. I am trying to find information about average utility costs, etc. Can one of you folks living there give me an idea of what the average costs are for things like elect/water/garbage etc go for? I am planning on renting for about 6 months to give myself time to find a good neughborhood and an affordable house.
Thanks!
Angela

I've never lived on the water but 3K a month sounds rediculous to me. You can expect to pay about 2K a year in taxes for every 100K you spend on a house. So a $300K house would be in the $6K/year ball park. I would guess your insurance would be less, but lets say it's about $4K a year for good coverage just to be safe. Water and sewer runs about $90/month. Unless you are in a gated community there wouldn't be any other large maint fees, but lets add 100/month for landscaping and 200 a month for electricity. With all that (and I think I'm over estimating) you're still only at about $1223/month
So whoever told you $3000 doesn't have a clue.
Anywhere in SW Cape Coral is safe.
