I'm a young single professional and will be working in Naples. I plan on touring some apartments in downtown Naples or Mercato area in North Naples but I am not opposed to a commute (35 min max). Are there are younger, more lively places to live in Estero or South Fort Meyers? If there is any nightlife I would love to live within walking distance (or a short cab ride!) I would love some advice!

Thank you!

I am looking for an apartment in the south Fort Myers area myself. I have never been there however so this is all just preliminary research It appears places are clustered along Hwy 41/S Cleveland. Daniels Parkway is nice too...There is also Florida Gulf College(name?) going east. I will include some links below. But that is just south Fort Myers

Nightlife? Naples is a retirement town. Mercato will have some shows and such in the winter months but its some small local band concerts, car shows, art shows etc. Around FGCU might have some stuff near Gulf Coast town Center. Downtown Naples will have nothing you are interested in if you are young. 5th ave is dead but maybe 2 days a week and in the summer nothing will go on down there.

I am also wondering about what you mean by "young". I am a young-type 38 who def doesn't want to hang with college students but retirees in their 50s+ isn't exactly my style either (not that some aren't young and hip). I think pinpointing the nightlife and activities you are looking for can depend on what age set you want to meet

I'd also like to know the answer to this. Mercato seemed like a good fit as they had a couple of nice restaurants and bars. I don't know of any other areas though

Is the river district or south ft myers a safe area to live? Some of the condos on the river look nice and are in walking distance to the shops, restaurants, pubs, etc. But is it safe to walk there say at night after dinner?

It depends on which buildings. Some are very far out east of the downtown. I wouldn't be walking there at night. Other ones are closer and to the west. I don't see any problem walking there as long as you don't stray into the ghetto that is only about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile away.
