Cape coral having more crime than Fort Myers?????? What?!?!?! -BacktoFLigo

LOL.
I've only lived here for 2 yrs. I would take CC over Ft Myers any day of the week, thank you. Why? CC just seems more laid back and friendlier. I just feel safer, here. I've dealt with the bridges to work in Ft Myers and it does grind on you during season, I think of it as a nice scenery coming or going over the bridges rather than just being a hassle. The trick is to adjust the time you leave in the morning to get to work and try not to leave right at 5 to come home.

NE and NW cape experiences alot of grow house activity, which is consistantly drawing arrests, so it's always being cleaned up to the best of our finest's capabilities. When that area is finally built up more and lived in, that activity should diminish somewhat, hopefully.

MOST of crime is either drug related or domestic in both Ft. Myers and in the Cape. Since there are ALOT of people who live here, per capita, the actual crime rate is not that high. If you are not involved in either, you can have a nice life here. Anywhere, USA, has bad areas so that's why you have to research and check into places like this to see where those areas might be.

Unfortunately for me, I have to move because of my new job is too far away and the gas is getting to be too much for my budget. I will be moving from CC down to Bonita. Complain? No, but I leave with a heavy heart, I really like the Cape.

Default consider estero, south fort myers

I had a coworker who moved his young wife and children from St. Louis to N. Ft. myers. He said she cries everday. It's total rednecky. People walking around with bare feet in grocery stores, no teeth, just unbearable. Lots of vandalism. Just check the NBC-2 website. I agree with the poster who said to stay south of Page Field. And you might want to check the sheriffs website to see the crime is out of control in Lehigh. Good luck. We live along Mcgregor/cypress lake area and it is very nice. And close to everything.

I note you say "too close to Suncoast Estates". I have been trying to get more information on the trailer park and can't find any at all!!! Can you tell me something about it? Is it terrible place? Unsafe, etc.? Or is it a possibility for some inexpensive living for a nice family without very much money?

Lark, Suncoast Estates isn't a trailer park it's a community. It's pretty big in size and has it's issues but there are still some nice properties out there with acreage not living 8' from your neighbor. You can Google Earth - Laurel Dr. Fort Myers FL. 33903 you can take a little tour for yourself. Back when I moved here it was just dirt roads but they have been paved and the flooding isn't as bad as it used to be.

I lived in East Fort Myers for 2 months and begged the landlord to let me out of the lease. It was the neighborhood off of Old Olga Road. The street I lived on was very nice, and there were many pretty homes on the river, but walking into a supermarket was like going back in time to the 60s and watching one of those B movies about biker gangs with the leather vests, skull & bones tattoos, chains, boots ... and I'm talking about the women!

I wouldn't hesitate to live in South Fort Myers, especially in the Daniels Parkway area, where there are many nice developments. McGregor Boulevard is really pretty too. I love the grand palms. North Fort Myers has some nice communities, but you'll think of Jeff Foxworthy & Larry The Cable Guy every time you stop at a gas station. Daniels is Exit 131 and Toledo Blade in North Port is 179, so that's 48 miles (that is, if you live on the interstate) which is a heck of a commute each way.

I want to add that Gateway is very convenient and a nice development in Fort Myers.

Friends & family live in Venetian Village ~ just got back from a pool party there. It is very safe and peaceful there. Main drawback for me is the construction on Gladioulus and closest shopping is not easy walking distance. Also, exiting A&W is sometimes a challenge, since there is no traffic light.

Thank you, Roadrunner69, for your explanation about Suncoast Estates. That helps at lot! However, there is a big trailer park there, right? I have seen ads for mobile home rentals that say "Suncoast Estates". Or are those just random mobile homes around the area? If these are in a trailer park, I'm wondering if if it is a safe place to live for a low income family. Would you know anything about that? Or is even Suncoast Estates a safe place to live??????

I do not believe there is a "trailer park" in Suncoast Estates there maybe an owner that has a few trailers on the same property but as I said the lots are usually pretty big. There are safe areas and there are areas you don't leave anything outside at night. It is a community of mixed incomes and some people keep up the appearence of they're property and some don't. Overall not bad if you find a place that is well taken care of. Dangerous, I don't think it's that I would say maybe more low level crime. But just like anywhere else nowadays you just keep one eye open. One other thing to consider you DO NOT want to be in a mobilehome during a hurricane. As I said if you find an address Google Earth it and you can see it without leaving your seat or Google Lee County Property appraiser and put in the address and a picture should pop up along with the info on the property. Good Luck but as usual jobs are very hard to come by (speaking from experience) so come prepared.

Don't want to go off-topic or start an argument here but, after reading some posts here, I want to ask why people always talk about mobile homes and crime in the same sentence? I lived in a mobile home park for many years and my neighbors weren't low lifes.

Remember 2005?

Wonder if these people in Florida are sorry they didn't sell their mobile homes 2 years ago. Can't remember if they ever worked things out with the developer who wanted to buy the land. I'd take $800,000 for my trailer if I still owned it!
