I blame store management for that, not necessarily the area. I'm staying in Vero Beach, a wealthy beach town, and I saw someone walk into a Publix without any shoes the other night. It's very hot here, but it only takes a few seconds to put on a T-shirt and a pair of sandals. Even flip-flops are fine, but nobody should go into a store barefoot. The toothless thing is irrelevant.
When I lived in Bonita Springs, I never quite understood why women walk into restaurants and stores hanging out of their bathing suits. It's low class, no matter how much money you have or where you live.

This is a very common attitude among Naples residents, and I do agree Naples is a lot nicer** but there are many pretty areas in Fort Myers.
