What would be your assessment when it comes to weather and temps?

It is fine. If you consider upper Michigan summers hot, you wouldn't like Florida summers. We find them just fine though. All a matter of opinion.

It depends what you mean by unbearable, if you use this link there is a chart telling you the high, average and low temps. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Myers,_Florida

Your unbearable may not be mine, I don't mind the heat. To me the cold in unbearable, I lived in the northeast for 40 plus years and hated the cold and digging out the sidewalk and my car out of 2 feet of snow when we had a huge blizzard. I hated driving on the snow and ice and putting on a coat to take out the garbage, now most of the year I can take the garbage out in shorts and a tshirt.

I moved here from Maine and NH.....it took some getting used to......but comparing high humidity and temps to sub zero temps.....I am glad to be here. In Maine I never really got warm all winter...I wore a hat indoors..and socks to bed. Here I do my outdoor chores in the morning and enjoy my pool and A/C house, car and theatres and malls. The heat and humidity is amazing.....like nothing I ever experienced...but all in all....I'll take it.

Its still spring here now....June July August and perhaps September... will be hot and humid. This last winter was exceptionally hot (El Nino)....and the heat and humidity lasted thru December.

Summary.....this is a sub tropical climate. If you absolutely cant abide heat and humidity this probably isnt your best choice..northern Florida might be more to your liking....or you might prefer the far west. (I hated it out in San Diego....but the weather was as close to perfect as anywhere in the world.)

May thru Sept, I would guess is the time most folks talk about the heat. As said earlier its not so much the heat, its the humidity. Plenty of places get hotter, the humidity makes it feel worse.
As far as unbearable, everyone is different, if you live here your body gets acclimated to the environment. That's good....the down side is you have sweat pants on if it gets below 70 degrees(lol).
I can get used to the heat easier than the cold of the northern winters.

What did you hate about San Diego?

Ideally if you have a carport or garage that will keep your car from baking in the sun. AC is everywhere so it's not like you are exposed to extreme heat and humidity for a long time unless you work outside. There are a few days where you walk outside and the humidity hangs low and hits you, but not often. Summer is also the rainy season where you may expect a shower a day, that cools things off a bit too. I always loved the summer and warm winters are heaven to me, I even hate when it gets in the 60s. I love warm summer evenings too. I don't believe in hell but to me it would be cold not hot.

April-Oct (some years December) hot as hell. Of those May/Oct unbearable heat and humidity to the point of insanity. This past Halloween was so hot and humid even my 6 year old asked to go home less than an hour in. People were handing out ice pops and water. A total true treat in misery to the weather we can have some years.

Dec-March bearable.
