Because I've been feeling damp lately. Not sure why. Haven't changed anything with the windows or doors. Maybe it's just me. This is the first time I've compared the temp to the humidity so I wouldn't know.

We keep the temp around 52 and the humidity reads 41 right now. 66 is too high. From what I've heard, you want humidity less than 50 or you will start to get mold.

If the AC is running it should also be removing the humidity . 66 does seem high. I have a humidistat that is hooked up to the AC , when I leave the house for the summer I set it for 60 so the AC will turn on whenever the humidity is over that. you may need to get a dehumidifier.

66% is very high and you will be susceptible to mold.

78F is not a comfortable temperature in my opinion. In Florida I kept it at 74F... but you'll want to get that RH down to 55% or lower.

How old is the AC unit? (to get an idea of it's efficiency)

Is the exchanger unit outside clean, and free of debris, and grass clippings that get sucked into the coils? You can clean a lot of junk out of there yourself with a garden hose and five minutes of your time.

What type of windows do you have? (Modern thermo pane, or forty year old single pane jalousies, again, a question of efficiency)

Can you see daylight around the edges of your entry doors? (add fresh weather stripping)

Have you walked around the house during the day and run your hand UNDER the edges of windows, dryer vents, doors. Where ever a small gap is, you'll feel cool air escaping outward. When that happens, moisture laden (humid) air is coming in.

Have you looked at the "KiloWatch" function on the LCEC website to track the peak times for your electric usage thruout the day? (Gives an idea of which angle the sun is at when you're using the most electricity, so you can address the insulation issues in that area of your home, blackout curtains, or close off those rooms not being used at that time of day if possible)

With a little common sense, and use of available tools, anyone can find ways to cut their bills, have cooler temperatures, and lower their humidity levels, and stay more comfortable, all at the same time.......

Glad to see the corrected temperature. I can only imagine what the electric bill would be if you kept it on 52.
Many people do not change filters regularly and this affects the efficiency of the unit as well as burning it out.
I keep my thermostat on 80 and have no problem with humidity. It could be a cost saver to have an A/C guy service the unit to make sure everything is in proper working order.
