The traffic in south Florida is heavier but still flowing. It's not like traffic jams pop up due to too many cars on the road like in major busy cities. We do have a bad road system with I 75 being the only highway and it's not central to getting around in most of Fort Myers, North Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Also most of the snowbirds do not work a 9 to 5 so they shouldn't be on the roads during those rush hour times, especially not in the morning.

And since we've been to Gateway, we find ourselves on Colonial much more than Daniels, (although I'm sure Colonial will be bad as well.)

Family is in San Carlos Park and Estero, so we just take Commerce Lakes Dr and Plantation Gardens Dr to Treeline, and then "across" Daniels, avoiding all the traffic on that road.

Thanks!

I just found that shortcut recently. It came in handy on Sunday evening when a power line blew down across Daniel's Pkwy and the road was shut for hours.

Not the sleepy little area we moved to in 85. Back then, a lot of businesses put shutters on the windows and closed for the Summer.

My family moved here in 1960 when I was 5 years old. You think it was a sleepy little area in 1985 - you should have seen it in 1960. No bridge to Sanibel, you took the ferry. One 2 lane bridge from FM to NFM and it was a drawbridge. U.S. 41 pretty much was desolate from the hospital south until the one blinking light in Bonita. Ahhh, the good old days.

If you come from a larger urban area such as L.A., Wash D.C., Atlanta, etc., you'll think the traffic is SWFL is very mild, even in busy season ... with the exception of getting on and off Sanibel and Ft Myers Beach in heavy season. Those 2 places can have legitimately bad traffic.

it's bad everywhere down here in season. Don't think it's not. And with the new construction going on everywhere, it's gonna get worse. Choose your drive times accordingly.

But they often are. In the morning there are many snowbirds headed out for breakfast up here on US 41 in PG and Port Charlotte. I would assume they also do the same on the main streets in Ft. Myers and Cape Coral.

Getting on Fort Myers Beach in Feb. / March this year was challenging.

According to the locals, the construction on FMB was creating bigger traffic headaches than in years past. Hopefully it will clear up for next year!

The traffic blows in the off season too. Drove to FMB 3 times last week and the congestion was bad.
