Has anyone had their pool cage refinished (or know someone who has)? Our pool cage is original to the house (about 15 years old) and is showing a good deal of wear. The process seems to be very involved and time consuming - remove existing screens, clean and prepare the structure's surface aeas, repair the structure if needed, replace the screws, paint or refinish with a non-paint product, and then re-screen. All of that looks to be quite expensive, but cheaper than getting a new cage. We are thinking that it might be worth the cost, but only if the newly refinished cage has a long life and not need refinishing again in a few years. We would want to change the color of our cage from white to black if possible. Our cage is one story but covers about 950 square feet - so there is a lot there.

I also see a number of places that will replace the screws with a nylon or stainless product. We recently had to repair two structural members and attached screens that blew out in a recent storm when the rusted screws gave way. Has anyone had this done? Was it expensive? Did it work?

Thanks for any insights.

I've known a many people who have restored their existing cage. Its becoming quite popular in your area, originally started by Gulf Coast Aluminum, and I don't think many others are offering it. Regarding the paint, if you're using a reputable company, they should be using a higher quality paint than what comes on the aluminum members from the mill (the mills use CHEAP generic stuff). I've seen a handful of them done and they look like new once complete.
