Wow - we needed the rain and I am thankful for it, at least I was until today when we are heading into day 8 or 9 of endless on an off rain and dreariness. I don't know how people live in places like Seattle. This is reminding me of June, 1999 when we first returned to this area. My mother had rented us a house on SW 34th Terrace. It was a nice home but one of the older ones on the street so all the rain accumulated right in my area. The water on the lanai was almost up to the den and one of the back bedrooms had moisture intrusion. At the time people were calling it the "100 year flood".

Anybody else remember that and are you seeing any similarities to what has been happening here this month?

Yep, I remember 1999.

But frankly 1995 was far worse. Most of Estero and Bonita was flooded all summer long. Since I work outside I nearly went broke, couldn't get any work done. The only time it wasnt raining was when the sun went down.

I've seen this pattern before, Rainy season often gets off to a very, very wet start, and then moderates back to the late afternoon downpours within a couple of weeks. What we're seeing isn't that far out of the norm.

I haven't seen this weather pattern since 1999. It has rained every single day, sometimes on and off all day since Saturday, June 3rd with the exception of this past Friday. Yesterday it was more intermittent. Normally, this time of year it will be nice (but hot & humid) until about late afternoon when our daily thunderstorm rolls in and then it clears up.

Right now at 8:10 a.m. it is overcast again where normally this time of year the skies are blue in the morning.

I gauge by the swale at the edge of the parking lot at my shop. When it rains and the swale still has standing water in it the following day, that's a good indicator that the ground is saturated. With all the rain we've had here in the past ten days, the swale is still dry the next morning. The ground is still soaking it up.

We still have a way to go, but yes, the ponds and canals are filling back up, and everything will be back to normal within a month or so.

We have a persistent fetch of tropical moisture feeding in from the south and west, it happens, and it causes rain in the early hours of the day. The pattern will break, sooner or later, and the late afternoon thundershowers will commence.......the world is not coming to an end.
