But if you must have a boat dock in your backyard look in Bonita first, then Cape Coral.

Geri (Izmack) as you stated," I'm sure it's not all rosy down here and that the downsides will become apparent as our newbie-ness wears off - there's always negatives to somewhere - even Paris. In the scheme of things, though, one could much, much worse than Cape Coral, no matter what they say in Fort Myers! " AS YOU STATED IN A PREVIOUS POST.
As I searched your past postings I see that there have been many, many conversations about the negative aspects of the Cape that I had nothing to do with, and you being a new homeowner, you don't want to admit they exist. So your taking it out on me, well if you must, go ahead.
So since you've made settlement how many days have you actually lived here experiencing everyday life. it's gonna take you probably a year or so to get over the honeymoon period of reality. Since your doing the snowbird thing it's probably gonna take longer. Live here for a couple of years and experience SW FL life, then get back to us.
Your situation of working out of your house and your husband being retired is ideal for the area that you purchased your home. You don't have to go out everyday to fight traffic during rush hours. ETC....
Being in the SE Cape so close to the gulf helps with the quality of homes around you since they were most likely in a higher price range than most of Cape Coral, Even though you found one for way under $150,000. Must have been a great foreclosure sale in your favor, great purchase! But what do you mean by "Vanilla neighborhood" as you stated a few times, "You bet! We'll be around until 5/22 and then leave for PA and our other "vanilla" neighborhood." Is this a reference to the moldy white tile roofs in the Cape?
Again, concentrating on negatives. You must be very unhappy. Maybe volunteer somewhere and do some good? It can do wonders for one's outlook....

Why do people talk so negatively on here? People should just talk nicely on here and help when other people ask for help or opinions. All I see is back and forth arguing. First someone says something negative about a city or whatever. Then someone points out the negative comment and an entire argument ensues. It's kind of pointless and really doesn't do anything except make people hate each other. Come on guys, can't well just get along?

BigRob, You hit the nail smack dab on the head! I answered a question and got retorted from someone who has just bought a house here and has spent no time what so ever living here. Her feelings are hurt because they looked at 40 houses in the Cape and bought one and then read all of the STUFF here. I guess their the experts. ok, so she got a nice house for 137,000 so close to the water due to the economy, congratulations. Your in the #1 storm surge area, wasn't that a concern of yours when you bought? You don't mind that big tangle of overhead electric wires out front of your home? Your house is almost 40 years old, not a concern?

I am not going to get dragged into arguments here unless I have to. I can see that it probably won't stop either...

You can't fool people. San Carlos Park is not Port Royal or Paseo or Cape Coral. It's not even Lehigh Acres, although if the economy doesn't improve, it could be. It's getting darn close.

I'm sorry you didn't get out in enough time, but if someone is excited about buying a home in Cape Coral, I say good for them. They bought at a great price and it is a nice community. It's not perfect, but it's not bad.

My MIL owns a home in SCP and it is so bad that she actually rents in Cape Coral. That says something.

I thought we were done here? But since the second string was sent in.........

Who's fooling whom? Why do you and the other one keep referring to San Carlos Park. I wouldn't live there either, I prefer a deed restricted neighborhood where all homeowners are suppose to play by the rules. I own property there, get really good rent for my property due to the clients I have and there are no slums around my properties.
I get it, your jumping on a band wagon ganging up on me?????? Like you did in the other topic.
What the heck does your comment have to do with my quoted post???? I don't see the relativity. Since you've taken sides maybe you can answer the question I asked, what did Izmack mean by the reference "vanilla" neighborhood" ? I've never heard of a reference like that.

I must have hit a nerve since someone is backing down with her attack, "Again, concentrating on negatives. You must be very unhappy. Maybe volunteer somewhere and do some good? It can do wonders for one's outlook...."""""will become apparent as our newbie-ness wears off """""""

2goldens: San Carlos Park is a very large suburban area in Fort Myers. It is just north of Estero.
wow, look what I found! Did you change your tune half way across the stream?

vanilla is starting to be used as a synonym for conventional or ordinary

I heard it the first time a few months back as "vanilla bonds", which means nothing fancy, which with bonds is a good thing!

researching this question I saw the term "vanilla sex", which I assume means missionary position : - )

for example, my neighbourhood would be the opposite of vanilla!
