I,ve lived in Lehigh Acres for 25 years and it's still the best value in Florida for 1/4 and 1/2 acre homesites. My father in law bought and sold homesites in Lehigh Acres for 40 years, until he passed away in 2005. He told me about the days when Lehigh Corporation would fly over from Miami in a DC-3 with a plane full of potential buyers, week after week. Sounds a bit like the Arkansas, Tennesee, etc. land commercials hosted by Eric Estrada. Anyway, my wife and I have picked up where her dad left off. We now buy and sell homesites, as well as homes and commercial properties.
If you want info on the area, you can e-mail me or go to my website at Good 2 Go Home Investors, Inc. - Home. There is an interactive map on the "contact us" page. Two other websites can also help. The Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce at . Chamber Of Commerce. . .Lehigh Acres Florida . . . A Great Place to Live!. . : . or check out Zillow.com Lehigh Acres Real Estate Guide and Valuations - Zillow . I'm surprised there isn't more info about L.A. online. I guess I'll have to post more info myself. Last edited by tomisgood2go; 08-22-2007 at 11:24 PM. Reason: misspelling |

Sounds like you are set on Lehigh Acres - cost reasons. If I had a choice and my work was in Ft. Myers I would live in Punta Gorda which is just north of FM over the Charlotte county line. The problem with Lehigh Acres (and a lot of Fla. communities) is that you can have a good street/bad street, good house/bad house anywhere and everywhere. Hard to tell someone exactly where to go to be safe. That's #1. Cape Coral also looked like a nice place, but then prices skyrocketed and crime escalated too. Everything down here is in transition. FL by nature has a large transient population. Lee County has it's share of crime. Imokolee, the town south of Lehigh Acres, is like Tijuana.
You can find a nice rental house in LA. There are plenty everywhere down here. Be careful because of all the investors who now must find renters because they couldn't flip the house. They may be foreclosed on while you are in the house. There are nice houses and nice neighborhoods in LA. I have friends that live there. I tell everyone to invest in a plane ticket and drive around before you come. |

I also came across this. And we were actually thinking of moving here.

I would not choose Lehigh Acres. A lot of gang related issues out there in the news. There is nothing out there.

But seriously, I know somebody who moved out there who commutes all the way over here every day to the east coast for the cheaper housing. He said the dredges of Southeast FL are moving there. Avoid it. |

LA is just shady. The whole SW area is becoming shady. I have no idea what the attraction is to that area that makes people move there (minus family living there). |

Family was a big part in me coming back here... And the weather as you know. Should have stayed up in Massachusetts. Bad decision. ![]() |

I'm from Massachusetts, too. Chin up, friend. Do you know how many mistakes I've made in my life? I am sure that good things are around the bend for you.

BTW, we have tixs for the Red Sox / Indians game on Monday. Big deal b/c we are a house divided Weather forecast is 40 degrees with chance of snow showers. Just not cool. But back in the 60s by mid- week.I don't live in the perfect city nor perfect climate, but I have my family here & my children see their grandparents on a regular basis. To me, that goes way beyond anything weather could ever provide. We sucked it up in SWFL until my husband had a job up here. It was a rough period. But, we got through it. Learned a lot. Job market is tough right now. Hope something breaks for you. My husband moved to NEOH for personal reasons that pertain to our life. But, his heart has & always will be in Hadley. Guess that part of Mass just has a draw to those from it. Again, hope things start to pick up for you & that you can stay where your extended family lives. |
