Florida Paradise is right. That's the most gang-ridden area of Ft. Myers. Stay out of there if you want to live.

If you are looking for a quiet and safe area, you need to do a ton of research... BUT a general Rule of thumb for newbies, (on a map) stay South of College parkway and West of 75. A few exceptions in that general area are Harlem Heights and San Carlos.

I understand that you are just making a general statement, but why stay west of 75? That would eliminate some of the best communities in the Fort Myers area including Gateway, Pelican Preserve, Marina Bay, Plantation (Bridgetown and Sommerset), Colonial Country Club, Miromar Lakes. Maybe better to say stay west (south) of SR 82 to stay out of Lehigh (and maybe south of Colonial since College is so far west and does not exist east of 41)? Zip code 33913 is one of the most desirable areas in Lee County and it is entirely east of 75, south of Colonial and west (south) of SR 82.
Agree that one needs to do a ton of research when looking to buy in this area. It's kind of like living in a big city where you could be in a high-end and safe area, make a wrong turn and be in a world of hurt. But city dwellers know where these bad areas are located and just stay away from them. You need to have the same attitude here so one needs to do a lot of research and spend a good deal of time in the area before committing to buy anything. There are so many great areas here, but one needs to beware of what is around them.
