Question What would make Cape Coral "a better place to live"

Hi All, I live in the Northland, trying to do some research for relocation to Florida. I read a lot of good and bad regarding Cape Coral, one of the big disappointments with the area according to other poster's is, it seems, that there is nothing to do there. I understand more jobs would be beneficial however these are the areas I would like to see addressed.
what would you like to see in Cape Coral to make it.....
  • a more "interesting" place to live
  • to make it more "distinguishable"
  • what kind of shopping would you like to see (clothing, art, sports, etc.)
  • what does Cape Coral need to improve
Thank You All for your time and thoughts!

There are things to do all over around here, from here to Naples. Don't listen to what everyone says.

It's all relative. If you have a good job or are retired, then you might really enjoy living there. I agree that there is always something to do, although you might need to leave the Cape and drive somewhere. It all depends on your interests. I mean, Lee County isn't Manhattan, but Fort Myers isn't exactly the boondocks either. I live between Fort Myers and Naples and whenever I get restless, I can usually find something to entertain me. Of course, walking on a beautiful beach isn't such a bad way to spend the day either.

I don't do it enough...

but just sitting on the beach under an umbrella reading a book is the best way for
relaxation to me.

One thing to make it better is reduce traffic....which is exactly what is happening. More lanes on 75 are being added....Livingston Rd is a great backup rd.
The Cape has road widening all the time.

This lull in construction is just what the doctor ordered....but not for to long.

a more "interesting" place to live Aside from the lack of nightlife, I think there are plenty of things to do. Many people just get so accustomed to where they live that they don't take advantage of what is around them. A lot of people that have relocated down here are from NY/NJ where there's never a dull moment, so it's all relative.
  • to make it more "distinguishable" Not allow the school district to build "trailer park" schools along main roads (ALC West on Del Prado). Ok, so I'm a little bitter because I live next door to it... Also, there are a lot of abandoned properties that need to be maintained.
  • what kind of shopping would you like to see (clothing, art, sports, etc.) There's plenty of shopping in Ft. Myers and at the outlet malls.
  • what does Cape Coral need to improve better local goverment officials are needed & utility expansion issues need to be addressed. Both issues are being worked on...slowly but surely!

The Cape needs these things:
High-tech jobs in software, services processing, information brokering, or medical technology processing.
Light weight, "green" manufacturing (either the process is green, or produces products that help "green-up" our environment).

Basically high end jobs for educated peoples. We have the weather and quality of life, but not the educational institutions, nor the JOBS. Lets be less of bedroom community and more of a city (shopping and entertainment is good, and is coming, but how about catering to the people that live and work here and get away from the "snow bird" or "retiree" economy?).
