Default Getting a Job in FL - Where would you move?

Part of our move to FL is the need for my wife to get a job. This will dictate the region where we will move to. I know this isnt easy.

We do have connections in the Marine industry, so that is a plus, but never a guarantee. She works as an Exec/Manager Assistant and has for years with pay ranging in the $ 20-25/hr range + benefits. I know this doesnt exist easily in FL. Realistically we could function with her making $ 14/hr + health or discounted health.

Shy of Miami, where would you suggest? We want to live in a kid friendly clean town with things to do. A 20-30 min commute, although not ideal, is acceptable.

Thanks!
Jason

Tampa.

I have several friends that have lived there and couple that live there now (and one heading up) for your very reasons.

Tampa seems to have the trifecta needed for those type of incomes. Educational institutions, industry (and not just tourism, snow birding, or RE), and reasonably priced places to live.

This IMHO of course.

I really don't think she would be making $25.00 anywhere in Florida. $14 an hour is also a shot in the dark. You will need to be near a bigger city in Florida to make at least $11 an hour which is kind of at the higher end of the payscale in Florida.

NHtoFL, are you focussed on the Fort Myers part of Florida, or would you consider Jacksonville? It's a family-friendly place. If interested, browse its forum here on C-D. Jacksonville Forum

Altho I live in Naples and make more than the 20-25+, I am working for a national company - I think that is the key if she is considering the SWFL area, particularly with the depressed economy in this area right now. If you are looking for that range on West Coast, I would agree with Tampa/St. Pete area.

Ditto the above.

While Cape Coral is one of the largest cities in FL, it has no real economy & is a bedroom community.

If you were single or married without kids, you could make it anywhere in FL. With kids, different story.
