ideal area in Naples
What will be the ideal area in Naples to rent at between $1700 to $2300 a month. We are interested in an area that is safe near shopping, movies and restaurants etc. If someone can give me a zip code that will be great.
Thanks

Start with 34102. You can gat a very nice place with that budget.
I assume you are looking at a house or condo vs an apartment.
There are areas to avoid so if you give me a street or development I'll give you my opinion.

Try the Reserve at Naples... 34105.. near the movie theater, Near two publixs no matter which way you go. You're right in the heart of North Naples. You're near waterside shops, the mall, Target, shopping centers, resturants the beach etc and can get a really nice condo to rent thats gated with pool indoor raquet ball etc I lived there and HIGHLY enjoyed it.. Was never more than 5 mins from whatever I needed

Are you talking about an annual rental or just for vacation? You didn't mention if you have children or pets which will make a difference. Annually, you can get a very nice home for $2,000 a month, especially in this market. Just look at the Naples Board of Realty site. Naples Area Board of Realtors - Naples Realtor in Florida and look at homes for rent.
"Ideal" is all relative. I don't like apartment complexes, so that is why I am not recommending The Reserve, although I'm not disagreeing with Tarastomsgirl, since it's very convenient, but any transient community with a lot of rentals will have its issues. It's one of those apartment complexes that turned condo. I've heard it's very noisy and the security isn't very good, but since I never lived there, it's secondhand information. Anyway, the rentals are considerably lower than the price range you mentioned.
It's strange, but the first thing I noticed is that you didn't write "near the beach" or "near golf" which is what the majority of people look for when they come to Naples since the warm weather & beautiful beaches are usually the main attraction. You didn't mention if you'll be working in the Naples area.
I live in Bonita Springs and the Coastland mall is only 20-25 minutes from my door. I suppose it also depends on what you mean by "near" since 20 minutes to me isn't a long drive. North Naples, for example, is only short distance from downtown, even with traffic. When I lived very close to downtown Naples, the airplane noise drove me crazy, but that was a long time ago. I know there is a community group that works to control air traffic annoyance and most flights stop by 10 or 11.
North Naples around Immokalee Road & Route 41 (also known as Tamiami Trail North) or Vanderbilt Beach might be the areas I'd select if I wanted to stay in Naples but be close to everything. You asked for a zip code, so I'll mention a few. 34108, 34109, 34110, 34119.
I don't like to shop, but shopping can also have a broad meaning. Some people like Marshall's, TJ Maxx, Ross or Steinmart, some people like expensive specialty shoppes, and others enjoy going to consignment and thrift stores for bargains. The largest shopping center in the area AFAIK is Coconut Point, which is on the Bonita/Estero line. It's a pretty shopping "city" with everything you can imagine. If you like your typical indoor mall with a Food Court, etc., then Coastland Mall in Naples is another shopping center. Coastland Center
Otherwise, there are lots of strip malls along route 41 and also super Wal-Marts, Target, Home Depot, Circuit City, Best Buy..you name it. Old Naples along 5th Avenue North or 3rd Street South is expensive, but it's charming and has lots of nice stores & restaurants. Third Street South - Naples Downtown Guide
In brief, you won't have any trouble at all finding a nice place to live in that price range, if you are talking about a long-term rental. A beautiful golf course community like The Vineyards, which is close to everything, has annual rentals in the $2,000/month range. Imperial Golf Estates is an older community, but it's upscale and also very safe. Pelican Marsh is also very convenient. As I wrote above, if you are going to be spending over $1,700 a month, you probably won't enjoy an apartment complex, so look for rentals in the upscale golf or yachting communities, whether or not you'll be using the amenities they offer. Good luck!

What was it that made you not like the town? How are the surrounding areas around the neighborhood?

We do have a dog (a Lab) and the beach, restaurants and movies maybe 10 minutes max will be great. We use to live in Miami so I want to stay away from areas with crime or pron to it.

We need more information on your situation.
Are you planning to move here or just visit?
Do you have/need a job? Retired? Kids living with you?
We don't get many people here asking about Naples with the budget you have. You have a ton of options.
The dog will limit some of your options, especially with a condo or apartment. You may want to stick with a house.
I agree with justNancy. You need to define what kind of shopping. If it is everyday stuff then nearly anywhere in North Naples you will be close to shopping/beach/theater in a safe area.

Unless you're moving to 5th Ave N, Golden Gate, or East Naples, crime won't be an issue. And looking at your budget you wouldn't even be near those places. Try the zipcode 34103. I live right across the street from Naples High School and it's a nice neighborhood, it's about 2 minutes from the mall. I'd try living anywhere south of Vanderbilt Beach Rd and West of Airport Pulling Road.
