Default Any full-time families living on Fort Myers Beach?

We are considering moving to Fort Myers Beach. We own a second home on the island and love the area and beach. Obviously visiting is different than living by the beach and wonder if anybody with kids can give some advise? I notice that Fort Myers Beach Elem. is an "A" rated school and is not part of the Lee County school choice program. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Default Do not do it,

Fort Myers Beach is a horrible place to live, the people that live there are a bunch of hippie burnouts that woke up and discovered they had a million dollar shack. Drugs and alcohol are a major problem. The school is not any good, and the people that are native, not transplants are a bunch of uneducated rednecks that are extremely racist. I would not ever live on that island, nice place to visit, however do not move there. During season, the traffic is horrible, If you want to live on a island, Sanibel is better and so is Boca Grande. I repeat, do not take your family anywhere near the beach.

I lived on the beach for 12 years, but my children were already grown. My knowledge is the school is a good school. It is a small community and has that hometown feeling esp. when someone is in need of something as they go out of the way to have benefits.

I lived on the South end of the beach away from the party scene and we did have several children living in our area. They were constantly riding their bikes or playing in the streets, which is just fine to do as almost all the streets are dead ends and have very little traffic. It is similar to any area in that you must know where your children are at all times... This is a crazy world no matter where you live.
The person who posted the above email must have only been shown the party area as most of this town has intelligent, kind, moral and caring people. The best neighbors I ever had were on FMB and they were not into drugs, alcohol nor were they rednecks or racists. I wish I were still living there...

The traffic of course is bad in season... it has one of the best beaches in the area which will bring tons of tourists like any place there is a place people want to be close to. Once again if you live mid- island or the South end of the island traffic is not bad at all as you go towards Bonita Springs for all your needs.
