Hi everyone-
After years of coming to sanibel, we finally decided to move to the area- not the island- but near. We live on LI in NY and our kids are in college now so we do not have to worry about school systems- We need some good advice- Can anyone direct us to a good area of either Fort Myers or Cape coral to live? I am a nurse and my husband is a computer tech so we will work when we get there but not quite sure what areas are safe and nice- can anyone give us some positive information? thanks so much! ![]() |

Best of luck to you. We haven't lived here very long, but it's my opinion that Cape Coral is a newer town, growing very quickly. I read somewhere that it is the fastest growing place in Florida. Personally, when we shop, I prefer to go to the Cape rather than Ft. Myers.
I know htat's not a big help, but may be a little. |

Cape Coral for sure, but there are nice areas in Fort Myers too, McGregor/south Fort Myers...

If you move to Cape Coral, stay in the Southeast or Southwest area. Don't go north. My pick: Southeast Cape Coral. Good Luck! |

I'm in the southwest area, Pelican Blvd. I feel this is the safest area I have been in, I like it here in this area. I did live in South Fort Myers off Iona in a really nice apt., it was a luxury complex, not the one old run down one on the left as you go down the Iona road... It is across from Catalpa Cove Rd. I won't name the property, it's against the rules in City Data I think. Anyways it was a great place. I prefer to be here in Cape Coral.

Cape Coral for sure! If you're a boater look into the "yacht club" area, if you're a golfer check out "Cape Royal".

Well, as much as I like cape Coral, it's a bit boring, BUT trust me, I'll take the Cape's boringness over Fort Myers any day. The "unfortunately" part is directed towards my discontent for Florida right now. I am trying to keep the positive side of me posting on here, I really am. Sometimes I just slip... LOL.

Cape Coral has a WAY better downtown area, over Fort Myers... I wouldn't walk around during daylight in Downtown FM, but the cape is pretty safe for sure.
