Now, dont get me wrong here. I'm not advocating the notion that being a litterbug is a good thing. But doesnt this seem a bit...TOTALITARIAN? Seems Lee county has a program that could be very easily abused.
Curious to hear what others here think, I personally think it is tantamount to homegrown terrorism. Isnt this similar to the programs the Nazis, and Communists used to keep their citizens inline? The last two paragraphs in their outline even brags about their "success" with this program. Does it scare anyone, just a little?

Interesting.
I do see Yachtcare's point. And yes, it could be a bit scary....and abused.

On the other hand, it does get me angry when I drive down the road and see litter just tossed all over.......dirty diapers, or a pile of cigarette butts in a parking lot, or whole bags of garbage or McDonalds bags in the road.

Just the other day I saw a whole speaker system smashed on the side of the road.

People who do this stuff are so despicable, and nothing ever happens. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It will also be interesting to see if a person so callous to litter would care if they got a letter like that.....they probably would just throw that out the window also.

It is disturbing, I see that point.
I also do not understand how just by giving the tag number to them, then forwarded to the TAX COLLECTORS office gets them the names and addresses.

how does the tax dept know what I drive? What about the DMV ? It is very big brotherish.

Perhaps just increasing the fine when an officer sees this is a better approach....or manditory walking along the highway picking up litter as part of the fine.

Well-well, that's Lee county for you... For the past year and a half all these folks do is keep crying how they are seriously short on tax dollars with the bubble bursting, right?

And here it is, they come up with a this "county-wide HOA on wheels" that's only going to eat up money - [people to answer phones and send letters + paper, envelopes, postage + office overhead costs] - without bringing a single penny in revenues.
