Quality of life in Cape Coral has improved steadily yet the crime rate remains extremely low. In the early years of the city, the lifestyle was geared toward retirement and associated activities and services. With the median age becoming significantly lower, the services and activities reflect the change.

Strait from the pages of the chamber of commerce.. The very kind of propaganda that got us into (some of) this mess in the first place. IMHO.
At the bottom of that link, is a link to Time Warner Cable, which ceased to exist in Cape Coral about two and a half year ago. Puts a date to the last time it was updated, just before the bottom fell out.

Default Should we move from Kansas City?

Hello all,
..my husband & I are in our mid-40's & have 7-yr old daughters. We live in a nice area of Kansas City, having grown up here.
My in-laws live most of the year in Estero, in a gated senior community, and absolutely love it. We're just finishing up our vacation here and WE love it, too. The weather, pools, beach, the whole 9 yards.
My question: Is Cape Coral a safe, great place for families? Is it too crowded--or headed that way? Good schools, and if so, which areas?
If you would not endorse Cape Coral, is there an area of Florida you'd recommend instead?
Just fyi, I work part-time, hubby works from home as a computer programmer so we can live anywhere. We'd be looking in the 230k max range for a home.
Thanks very much for your help in advance! -Joan in Kansas City

It sounds as if the employment angle is covered, so you're about 90% of the way there, er, here. The area is losing population, by my casual observation, "official" stats may say otherwise. The question of schools are subjective, as no one here likely has experience with Kansas City schools for comparison. As we have "school choice" here, it doesnt necessarily matter what part of town you live in, you can pick a school you want to attend, and there is bus service to that school from a local stop near your home. Debatable as to how well this actually works. With the undeniable "buyer's market" here, you could buy a very nice home for $230K around here, if you do some shopping. Good Luck!

Haha comcast is horriable, my family just switched back to satellite.

In regards to schools...I think schools are pretty good in Cape Coral until its time to chose a High School. I've seen way too many good kids become corrupt by the High Schools. I was lucky to attend Fort Myers High school's IB program and get out of the Cape Coral schools.

I live in Gainesville, and am attending University of Florida so I'm not sure if circumstances have changed in the three years since I left "Cape Coma".
