Punta Gorda is a great little small town. If your into fishing or golfing this would probably be a good fit for you. The downtown area is very quaint and walkable with cute little shops and restaurants. It's really not as bad as some people are making it out to be, IMO.

Like anywhere else, if you were interested in Punta Gorda-come on down and take a spin around the community and see for yourself.

An earlier poster brought up the age issue.
We don't live in either Punta Gorda or Port Charlotte but after we moved to Charlotte County I happened to see that it skews as the oldest in Florida (I think) and possibly the U.S. Oh No!

Here's the funny thing...we had more trick or treaters (25-30) on Halloween than we have had at the last 3 houses we lived in, including Naples FL and Delaware. Yes I know there are many older people in the area but my neighborhood is diverse in age. I think older peeps gravitate to gated communities for the perceived safety and lower maintenance yardcare and there are many of those communities around, some don't have gates.

I think marie is entitled to her opinion as are the people who disagree with her. No one is right or wrong. It's all in your perception and many things color that: your job (or lack of one), your neighbors, your spouse. It's not nice to call her statement "lies".

I will tell you this, it has been a HOT year. 7 months of HOT is not an exaggeration. Some people like that. Next August we're headed up north.

Augie is on a distinguished road
Talking Marie2 doesn't lie, but she exaggerates con cojone.

Her hysteria is over the top and she lacks credibility. Take it from a NJ transplant who has been in PGI for almost 7 years.

Yes, she is entitled to her opinion, this is America, we all are. That's completely beside the point though. When she said this--

"There is absolutely nothing in Punta Gorda. There are 4 car dealers, a publix and a few restaurants, (the best one just closed) Absolutely nothing!!! No shopping, no doctors, nothing."

--in a previous post, is that what you consider an opinion? Well, the fact is, is that isn't an opinion. It's a matter of fact statement that couldn't be farther from the truth. Don't believe me? Grab the yellow pages.

When she said this--

"I just spent another 8 hours of my life in every single business in PG on Thursday. I'm in sales for 6 years, I spend my time talking to all types of business owners all day. I am not exagerating."

--I couldn't help but to take that as another statement that couldn't farther from the truth, because like I said before, it's impossible to be in "every single business in PG" during the course of an 8 hour day. it's simply impossible... couldn't even come close to it.
