After looking into many areas in Florida, my husband & I think we have decided on Southwest vicinity (Fort Myers, Cape Coral, etc). We are in our early 30's with no children. Fort Myers area seems to have plenty of restaurants & shopping. And I have been told that the beaches are very nice there? Also it seems that the cost of living is a little more reasonable in some of those areas? My husband would be transferring down as a Walmart manager...any imput on the "good ones" around there? I am a massage therapist.....do you think I will have trouble finding work? I am hoping this area will be good for us! Any advise or input would be appreciated!

i am from the cape (cape coral) originally, and am most likely moving back in august.
you won't have a prob getting a job as a massage therapist, i'm sure of that. though most of your clients might be old. common banks... wachovia (and they suck)... fifth/third (i don't know what's up with that name)... i can't think of any other at the moment... it's boring there, really boring... cape coral, ft. myers, etc... the crime is low in the cape but not in FM... so much more to write but i'm at work, i'll try to write more later. -themixtape |

As a former Sarasota resident now living in Tampa, I can tell you that SW Florida living is very slow and boring.
The beaches and sunsets are beautiful but the population is definetly older 50+, retirees, and "snowbirds" from the midwest. If you're looking for some sense of city life you're going to have to commute several hours to Tampa. When it comes to jobs, the local economy is pretty limited. I would say it depends on your pace. The age of people in Cape Coral/Fort Myers now is AGE 41. If you go to Naples Fl....the age is much higher. |

When you are in your thirties and forties, and work all day what do you do when you get home? party at hot night spots? sorry I doubt it. if you are 20 something and single everywhere sucks unless there is a club nearby.

You should try North Port, it's just north of Cape Coral. They just built a brand new WalMart. The housing is affordable and it's 25 minutes to the beach.
