Is Naples Municiple Airport on a Former Landfill?
Just curious if anyone knows if this is true?
I ran into an article about locating a bus hub near the airport and it went this way:
"They advocated that the county instead consider locating the station on land now used for recycling services on Enterprise Avenue, about three quarters of a mile west of Airport-Pulling Road and not directly in the runway flight path. This may end up being the location that works. Soliday said it's a former landfill site that is elevated from buried garbage and likely wouldn't be a prime site for hangars or aviation offices or buildings."
Google maps shows the area around the airport to be fairly built up and residential looking. Can't believe there's a dump hidden there. But you never know.
Found this too in the Collier Citizen:
"Owner Russell Holloway says he has been wrangling with the county for 20 years. Holloway purchased the property in 1971, before the landfill was relocated to its current site from its former location, now the Naples Airport."
