Hi
I'm new here! My mother in law has asked my hubby and I to consider moving to Fort Myers. We're in our late 20's and looking to move away from Long Island because it's very expensive!! We don't have/wants kids. Do you think I'd be able to find a job? I've read a lot of posts advising to avoid this area and now I'm a little weary to even consider relocating to FL. TIA ![]() |

Better job markets would be Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, even Tampa. I used to live in St. Pete and am returning due to the condition of the job market down here. It is DIFFICULT to find jobs here - unless you are in hospitality, medical, and/or construction. That being said, I know of someone who relocated down here from Chicago who has a medical background (one of the supposed "booming" job markets here) that has had to resort to taking a three-month temp position in VA just to make ends meet. Also, pay is a real problem here. Employers are paying here what I made 20 years ago when first starting out. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Housing, jobs, and pay rates are better north of here on this coast, and it will still be within a reasonable drive to your mother-in-law's house. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Good luck to you.
