Default Tips for fun in Fort Myers

My fiance's brother moved to Fort Myers last year. We are going to visit him
in April instead of our annual South Beach trip (from MO). I love the ocean/beach and I am just wondering a few things:

-Best beach or beaches nearby (sharks/jellyfish or any other issues going
on during that time!)

-Best place to watch a sunset with Alcoholic beverages readily available.

-Waverunner rental?// Good deep sea fishing excursions

-Anything worth the trip to see or do in Naples/or Marco island?

-Any nearby hotels on the beach with a pool in case I can talk her into
staying there a night or two!!

I figure he knows some about the area by now, but just want to get extra
input from locals, ex-locals, or anyone who has been there recently. Any
info will be appreciated.

Are you coming down before or after Easter? The reason I ask is that the snowbirds tend to head north at that time, which means it's much less crowded (and therefore easier to get around).

It will be the Thursday after Easter that we arrive. I will keep my fingers crossed on that.

As far as spring break though, I forgot the busy times anymore??? Will the
beaches be packed like crazy April 12th-16th ??

Thank you

My Mom lives in Ft. Myers and when we go see her, we always make a trip over to Sanibel/Captiva. The Shell Factory is a very interesting place to visit (yes, it's a touristy place but lots of people love it!) It is located in N. Ft. Myers. Have Fun!

Default Sounds good

Keep the great ideas coming. What is shell Island?? Worth the trip to
sanibel Island for people age 25-30 ?? I'm looking for gorgeous scenery, warm water, and alcoholic beverages!! But then again who isn't.

Thanks again everyone.

Um, Ft. Myers Beach seems right up your alley. Lani Kai is a pretty fun place for drinks on the beach, kind of a party scene. Naples for a day?? Depends on what you want/like. You could dress nice (think cruisewear) and head to 5th Ave for a nice lunch in one of the outdoor cafes and walk the fancy shops. Then you could head a few blocks south and walk the pier. Sanibel for a day is fun too, try the Bubble Room for lunch, it's pretty neat. You could even rent a boat for a day and find the island where Jimmy Buffett wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise (it's true and north of Sanibel by boat only). Hope that helps.....but I think the place you should try looking into is Lani Kai, they even do jet ski rentals.

No offense, but I hate the Shell Factory.....then again, I hate tourist traps. They had a very sad, sad situation with a zoo there a few years back where the animals were so poorly cared for.........

Ya know, a lesser known place to spend a fun day is Boca Grande, just north of Sanibel. It's a fun place to go a rent a golf cart and have a lunch.....the beaches there aren't the world's greatest but they have pretty good shelling on the north side. I got married there. Water is beautiful.

Default Quick ?

Great info so far.....I am leaving for Fort myers soon. Appearantly from
looking online we are staying with her family who live in a condo in more northern ft.myers...so like 18 miles to the beach! I have to stay at least one or two nights in a hotel "on the beach"....Can anyone who has been to Fort myers beach in the past year or two tell me of a good beachfront hotel/resort with a pool and all the amenities?? $150 to $300 per night for a double. I have to stay on the beach on vacation, the fiance thinks it would be rude to her family not to stay there...so I am inviting them to stay with us if I can find a hotel worthwhile and available. Feel free to give any other
advice etc. that would be helpful!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a beach fix
bad ! It was 30 degrees this morning in STL !!
