Default Ft.Myers

I was just wondering what is there to do for college students(I'm 23) around the Ft.Myers area? I was looking at moving down there for school and was wondering if there is a good bar scene? Are people friendly, stuck up, over confident, what? What areas should I avoid?

all of the above! A lot of local college students were recently busted by the undercover police at and around the local bars for dealing drugs. Great bars but maybe U should concentrate on school???? Spoken like a true father of a 22 year old college student. There's plenty to do here if your willing to look. It aint gonna find you at the bar. Lots of parks, water, beaches, churches stores, restaurants....... what interests do you have?

beach mostly, and all the areas around the beach. Downtown Ft Myers has a few clubs.

However, there are much better places for a college student to party in Florida than SW Florida.

Fort Myers is not very attractive place to move to. Especially being your age...Please do your home work and try another location. Happy new year....

Totally disagree, I have a 22 and 25 year old kids and they love it here. I've been here for 10 years now and still love it, accept for the snowbird traffic. But you know what, where I came from it was traffic like that year round and getting worse it seemed,Wilmington, Delaware. I'd rather slow down and put up with it here in the SUN than be in it up there in that crappy cold weather. Ya just gotta be ready for anything 24/7.

If you go to FGCU, you'll want to check out Gulf Coast Town Center. There's a Bar Louie, Cigar Bar, Ale House (although that's where they just had the drug bust), Blu Sushi, etc. It's a 20s crowd with a wide range of people. You could also check out Cape Coral for some places to hang out (the Dek, Pearl, Eddie Fishbowls, Scorz, etc.) or downtown Fort Myers (Venu, Level, Neo, EnVie, Hideaway, Bacchus, Indigo Room). I'd definitely advise checking out the area for a few days before moving down here. I like it just fine but you may want a busier pace.

Tons to do.. besides the beach... Gulf coast town center, coconut point, ft. myers beach has tons of clubs.. They've built up the area VERY WELL by gulf coast . When my husband was in FGCU there was NOTHING. We had to drive quite a ways just to get something to eat because it was all new. Now there's Beef O Bradys, the Everblades Arena that hosts concerts, ice hockey games, recreational ice skating and indoor rollerblading arena, they hosts craft shows etc etc. There's Koreshan (sp?) state park, dining cruises that you can really get deals on canoeing kayaking, we have concerts and the list goes on.

We have comedy clubs, beaches, great dinning and shopping.. There is A LOT to do. The people who are always complaining about the area seem to not look hard enough/ don't want to look hard enough or complain its too hot (as if this wasn't common knowledge considering its SOUTH FLORIDA). Or there's too much traffic, people are too old etc etc.. NYC has too much traffic, we have seasonal traffic and you deal with it. Have A/C in your car? Yes then what is there to complain about? If you know the traffic is busy you leave early like the rest of the U.S. does when they live in congested areas simple as that. FGCU has tons of people your age and many of my friend went there and had a BLAST.. If the school is the right choice for you then I say go for it. I find WEEKLY if not daily things to do in Estero Bonita and Naples and occasionally Ft. Myers and I'm rarely bored and neither are my friends who are in the 24-26 year old range..

PS the thing about the college kids getting busted for drugs.. OHHH WOOOWWW.. as if we didn't know that was a common thing with college student. I came from a college town literally the entire place was just college kids and we had daily drug/alch busts with them.. I challenge you to find a college that doesn't have these problems with their students.
