Default Questions about living in SW Florida

I'll be moving to Cape Coral area in a few months and am looking for advice on what I'll have to change. I've researched the usual/crime/taxes.

1. Can I put wood shelves in the garage or will humidity/termites ruin them? Chrome or plastic any better?
2. Do you run dehumidifier year around?
3. Do you store everything in airtight plastic containers in the kitchen to keep bugs out?
4. Can I store cardboard boxes on garage floor?
5. Do you keep Bdrm closet doors open for ventilation?
6. How often do I need pest control to spray? Do they spray inside or out? Is spraying indoors bad for cats?
7. Is it better to have natural fiber (leather) furniture or synthetic (nylon) fiber?

1. Can I put wood shelves in the garage or will humidity/termites ruin them? Chrome or plastic any better? Doesn't matter.
2. Do you run dehumidifier year around? I don't own one nor know anyone who does. The A/C does that for you.
3. Do you store everything in airtight plastic containers in the kitchen to keep bugs out? No
4. Can I store cardboard boxes on garage floor? Yes
5. Do you keep Bdrm closet doors open for ventilation? No
6. How often do I need pest control to spray? Do they spray inside or out? Is spraying indoors bad for cats? When I had pest control, which I don't anymore, it was quarterly. They sprayed inside and out. You can always specify what you want. I have dogs and cats without any ill effects.
7. Is it better to have natural fiber (leather) furniture or synthetic (nylon) fiber? Doesn't matter.

I agree with all of this.
However, we do keep cereal, rice, flour and sugar in air tight containers to keep out bugs. If you go through your food pretty quickly it's not a big deal to do it, but if you have a stocked pantry consistently (fully stocked with things you only use sometimes) then you should.
Our pest service is quarterly, and they also come in between if you call them b/c you see bugs.

Talking Try Bounce

Try putting a sheet of bounce in any of the boxes you store in the garage or anywhere else in your house......for some reason the bugs do not like the smell of it and just move on......the bounce also works on Mosquito's...just put a sheet in you shirt pocket and they land on the person next to you......

You can carry it a step further...and as you are packing to move or go on vacation...add a sheet of bounce to each box or bag...and you will never give the bugs a free ride...
